Opened in 1964 this business is a Davie landmark. When the business began it started as a fruit picking, packing, and shipping operation. In the 1970's they added a fudge store and a key lime pie based on Terry Roth's family recipe. Sadly Terry Roth lost her battle with cancer in 2 002 but her award winning pie lives on. In 2006 Bob Roth's New River Groves successfully waged a campaign to make key lime the Florida state pie. Today the business continue to ship out thousands of pounds of fruit all over the US and Canada.
I found myself in the area on the day before Thanksgiving so I took it as a sign of fate that it was finally time to try one of their famous key lime pies. The only thing keeping me from pie was their terrible parking situation. After circling a few times I was finally able to secure a spot. They were more than prepared with stacks of pies at the ready. One key lime pie is $16 but they had other intriguing flavors like chocolate turtle. Wanting to stick with the classic I headed for the checkout. When I confessed that I had never tried their pie before they whipped one out and insisted I take a bite. Oh my! Pie to make you cry! It was a mixture of tart and sweet that is sent from heaven above. Bells rang and angels sang and I took a pie to my Thanksgiving feast.
In addition to the aforementioned pies they have delectable looking spreads including a coconut one that almost made it home with me, dried fruit, fudge, old fashioned and kitschy delights, shakes and smoothies, stone crab claws, and of course citrus. If you want one of a kind gifts or food delights that scream Florida this is the...
Read moreI can’t even tell you how many times I’ve passed this place and I’m always curious but have never checked it out. We were coming back from Oakland Park and passed the spot when my husband said we should stop by. I said yes, please because I’ve never been. he says this place is popular to buy some nice gourmet food gifts for corporate clients.
This spot is very eclectic. So many things to see. I had major ADHD. Lol. I love all the cool gourmet snacks. Walked around checking everything out and picking up stuff here and there. Somehow we left with $59 worth of stuff. Like HOW?!? Haha.
We tried several different things. Everything added up quickly. Lol.
• Shortbread with Ginger Cookies • All Natural Unfiltered Orange Blossom Honey • Mango + Chili Chewy Fruit Bites • Dark Chocolate & Orange Wafer Cookies • Fresh Sugar Cane drinks • Key Lime Pie in Mason Jar
We totally thought about buying Stone Crab Claws too but man it’s so expensive! You can snag a 2-3lb bag for about $100. They also had ceviche which I wanted too but wasn’t sure how fresh it would be here.
There’s a cute little coffee shop at the front entrance where they sell empanadas and fresh small bites too. You can also find cactus and succulents at Jason’s Local Garden by front entrance too. The back room has tons of gourmet snacks that make great gifts. Some are pricey but worth it if you dig the fancy stuff. Which I do. Lol.
Cute spot for a variety of things. Did I mention you can buy fresh coconuts here too? You can buy...
Read moreOne of my favorite places here in Davie! First of all, the Roth family is a long standing family here and helped to develop Davie. Sit down with any of them and you will find the whole day will fly by as you are swept up in the stories they share. So interesting the history they have. They are an amazing charitable family and are very involved with our community. If anyone had anything but good things to say about any one of that family, I would be shocked. Kuddos Roths!!!
Anyway, the groves is a very cool place to go to get amazing, delicious things. Their juice bar is amazing, complete with wheat grass shots and homemade soups. They have plenty of tables and even a beautiful garden area to sit and relax or even have a meeting. We meet there for business all of the time.
Ok, now the REAL good stuff! They are known for their Terry's homemade pies, especially the Key Lime! They are amazing! We love the pie in a jar. You don't feel so guilty when you have 20 little bites during the day instead of a slice. There are many other flavors that are just as good. Try them all.
Then you could spend hours walking around shopping in their store. They have cool finds of all kinds, from bee pollen to honey to stone crab (in season) to fudge, health foods, coco frio, coconuts, nuts, and of course what they started the business with, fruit! You literally can spend hours in there. Oh and gift baskets and fruit to ship. It's awesome!
Definitely a must stop! Enjoy...
