Me and my boyfriend had gone to visit the prison as I love history and the paranormal. He is definitley a skeptic and just wanted to go walk through and see the awesome car museum. We walked through every inch of the prison and adjacent building twice. We stopped infront of the admin building next to the cell block and above the mess hall. Just taking one last look of the grounds we both turned to the second story window at the same time and were caught off guard to see a woman looking at us right above the bottom of the window sill. I locked eyes with her then within a slpit second she turned and instead of seeing her walk to the window next to that ome thru the room, she went down at an angle as if she were walking down stairs and dissapeared. Ar first we were wondering how a person got up there. We went thru the whole building looking to see if we missed a way up there as the doors leading to the second story from the outside had locks on them. We couldn't figure it out. After analyzing what we saw we realized it didn't seem right. She was there one second and gone the next as comoared to a human turning their head their hair would move or when they stood you would see a torso. I asked the nice women in the gift shop if anyone was workimg up there and they said they were the only employees. There was no way someone could get in there. They know it's haunted. Out of all the people there that day probably around 4 families with little kids we saw this woman we hadnt seen the whole time. I am a hardcore believer in the paranormal but when I saw this i couldnt believe it. Has anyone else seen a woman spirit at all? Overall loved this place and the amazing car museum....
Read moreStopped here only to change drivers but we ended up staying hours. The ticket price allows access to about 6 museums within 100 yards of each other. Each one of them made me say WOW. I loved this place, so did the kids. The self guided tour took you all around the prison. From the "hole" to the canteen. The cells were frighteningly small, especially for those sharing. The car museum attached to the prison was out of this world. I have never, and am unlikely ever to see anything in such a grand scale at what I saw today. It's like Disney. You think you're almost finished but when you turn the corner it just keeps on going. I loved the original cars best but the 60/70s hot rods were also a hit. Each car, no matter how old, was like new. The blacksmith across the road was such a lovely guy and gave our kids the links he had just watch him make. They were over the moon. The lady in the toy museum was able to tell us all about the princess Diana toys as they were her own collection. The train museum at the back took my breath away as I walked through. Such detail to everything they created. The frontier museum showed all the guns, saddles etc. This was probably my least favourite but it was only because I had been spoiled with the rest. We finished our visit to the ice cream shop next to the prison. Plenty of choice and the ice cream was delicious. It's will definitely be recommending the town to anyone I know visiting Montana. Congratulations Deer...
Read moreThe complex is huge. My husband and I went on a Sunday morning at 9 am. We were the only ones there, which was really cool. As we explored the complex there is a couple of spots in the men's dorm area where we heard a loud bang at the other end of the walk. We walked to where the noise came from and didn't see anyone. We looked down and there was a blood strain on the floor. Also, it was very cold in there, which gave us a sense of the temperature the inmates had to live in. The women's and Max security was the creepiest area, I had a fight or flight feeling. Then the tunnel had gun ports that the officers could shoot out of, when you look through we could see the old classroom. And the mess hall was very cramped. We went down to the hole, which is the picture with a small round grate, and we both closed the door in on of the cells. It was so dark and cold and eerie. Last, we went to the theater where they had the gallow, where they hung people. Also the shoes you see in the picture were made of concrete and not soles, for the prisoners they thought would try to run an escape. If you like creepy and history all in one I recommend this place. I was also told by one of the workers that it's better to go in the summer cuz more things are open, they were renovating a couple of spots we couldn't get into. $15 per person, and your receipt to get back in for free is good to up to a year. Then, we went to car museum.... You'll have to go to see it. I'm not going to...
