Parents and students, If you are looking for an education, and to make cosmetology your career, do not attend Hair Professionals. This school, opposite to its name is not professional. At all. As a person who attended for per se 4-5 months, I wouldn't reccomend this place to anyone. Furthermore, I was attending high school, and I was in a dual credit program earning my license. I had/have plans to attend college in the upcoming fall semester, and shared concerns with both educators at Hair Professionals in Sycamore, about graduating with my license in June. One educator assured me that I would be able to do so. I also shared concerns about certain things before signing up that I would have to do that would cause me to miss school (My mother was there for these meetings as well) She assured me that I could make up time on a Saturday and come in for days missed. Time went by, and at school, we were not learning. Instructors would teach, but be on their phones, leave us for hours, and when asked for help sometimes would be very quick to an attitude, or even ask why we’re asking for help. "Did you watch the video" Mind you we are in a hands-on paid progam..and you're a teacher. There was a lot of gossiping about students, especially by instructors, if one of the girls had a problem with another, teachers would instigate with other girls and single the other out. Instructors would be in the office chatting with their significant others, (who often visited the campus), eating, and focusing on whatever they wanted. Students were left with essentially "free time" and as a student who is there to learn and who paid to learn you can see this is not ideal. Furthermore, Instructors are not clear about the truth of this program, when asked questions, I was often misled, nobody ever stuck to rules, and one day we would magically be hammered down about not following rules, and then the next day would resume as normal. They often did this when HR was present or someone of high authority was there. But these rules were never stuck to. Instructors are also rude to students, and often curse kids out or say things like shut up. I was told this by one of the instructors when collaborating with a student. She didn’t believe I was following directions so that was her way of telling me to be quiet. Which is disrespectful and something I don’t appreciate. Subsequently, I wrote all of this to HR and what I thought was a private matter, somehow, my name and what I said got told to them. FERPA?? BOTH instructors pulled students into the office and asked about what I wrote, then asked if they knew I was doing that. In what world is this okay? The level of unprofessionalism is very high when it comes to this school. This entire school is corrupt, HR or the ā€œbusiness managerā€ doesn’t take concerns seriously, and when my mother vouched for everything that was going on all she had to say was ā€œBut this and But thatā€. So if you decide to come here, any problems you have will not be truly addressed, because they automatically take the side of educators, without any true investigation. I’ve never been in a classroom setting where a teacher is supposed to be in a position of authority and an example of respect but lacks kindness and basic professionalism towards the students. Teachers here are distasteful and with that said, For any incoming students who even have a THOUGHT about coming to this school, please do not waste your...

After having a daughter graduate from this school (Sycamore location) I can honestly say that as a parent, I would not recommend this school if you are seeking a profession in Cosmetology. During the 2 plus years we paid for education and training (my daughter used the KEC program through her high school) there were numerous issues. Lots of drama, immaturity, lack of teaching needed skills and lack of professionalism from students and staff. High level of turn over from the staff too! I will say that the administration staff from Oswego and previous employees at Sycamore (ones who oversaw the KEC students) were all great to deal with. Those staff members were all very professional and knowledgeable about enrolling procedures, contracts, handling of loans/financial aide or other issues that came up at the Sycamore location internally. The school there in Sycamore is over populated and crowded with sometimes 2-3 girls sharing a station. They only have 2 teachers there and 1 of them doesn't even come in til 1p.m. When I went in for a hair cut, there was not a teacher on the floor supervising like the plaque states (hanging at receptionist desk) Never even saw an adult staff member until I was paying and about to leave. Girls were in the back taking selfies, talking about their dates, cussing and doing makeovers on eachother while clients were there. Again, no teacher or staff member in sight. My daughter was targeted and bullied by one of their staff members on almost a daily basis. That is a fact and many students can and will validate that! When she did finally graduate, that same teacher went out of her way to avoid my daughter like she didn't want to even acknowledge her. Yet, previous staff members (who no longer work there) made a point to come back and celebrate her graduation. That same instructor has been caught by students (pictures and videos) sleeping during times she was to be teaching. When I came in to address concerns with that teacher and asked why she was picking on my daughter or why she wouldn't allow my daughter to take her full lunch break, she told me I was just "knit picking" My daughter left this school with a lower level of education than we expected to receive considering what we paid. Teachers there pick and choose favorites and focus on girls they like to help better their skill levels. If they don't like you, they make it a miserable experience and pretty much make you become self taught with your skills. Very unprofessional atmosphere. Save your money and go elsewhere...

Today I went in to get my hair balayaged and trimmed. This process takes awhile (especially for someone with hair as long as mine) and I was there for over four hours. My hairstylist was Kelsea, and she did a fabulous job on everything. She has such a vibrant personality and I could tell she knew exactly what she was doing. The only bad part about my visit was the "student teacher" Lauren. She was very condescending towards Kelsea, and I felt like she was hovering over me the whole time. She kept telling Kelsea how she "should" be doing the process and that it would "look better" if she didn't do it how she originally planned to. This happened on multiple occasions while my hair was being done. I realize that this is a teaching salon, but this was just over the top. I didn't witness any constructive criticism, just straight up criticism. Towards the end of my visit Lauren came up to me while I was still in the chair getting my hair dried and told me how much I needed to pay and took my money right then. I didn't even make it to the counter to be checked out properly! Also, I was there earlier this year and the price that I paid for the exact same thing was magically $20 more than my last visit? Why aren't there any set prices? I was extremely happy with my hair and how it turned out, but I could have definitely gone without the hovering and incessant...
