What an awesome experience!
I was met by a delightful hostess who greeted me with a smile and even offered me the local newspaper.
The restaurant was busy with a lunch crowd, but the booths have tall backs that help you feel that you're in an intimate setting at your table, and keep the excitement to a level that encourages good conversation with your tablemates.
The waiter was prompt and courteous, brought water and asked if I'd like coffee.
The coffee was perfect. I enjoy coffee black, and this coffee was full flavored without being bitter, and was a nice darker roast which I enjoy.
I ordered the traditional breakfast, which consists of 2 eggs (I like mine over-medium), hash browns, and choice of toast or 2 pancakes. I chose the pancakes, but ordered rye toast on the side as well. I also added bacon (extra crisp.)
The eggs were cooked perfectly, runny yolks, but just-done whites, and they understood the mission with the extra crisp bacon. The bacon was thick sliced, apple wood smoked, and crisp without being burned.
The rye toast was a seeded rye, which had a nice flavor and was buttered in the kitchen, although I was given a good supply of butter & jam at the table should I have wanted to add more.
The pancakes had a great flavor, and were not too "mealy' as they are at some places. I'm a bit of a pancake snob, but these were perfectly acceptable and, as I said previously, tasted great.
The wait staff kept my coffee cup full throughout my visit, and I was even offered refills twice after I was stuffed full of breakfast delights and ready to leave.
All in all, Egg Haven was a perfect choice for an early lunch/late breakfast, and my only disappointment is that I live 35 miles away and won't be able to visit again soon enough.
Thank you, staff of Egg Haven, for a truly enjoyable experience. I...
Read morethis place is a total gem. my husband tried this for the first time without me and raved about it. so when we happened to be in dekalb/sycamore, we stopped here for breakfast. I walked and was genuinely surprised at the fancier atmosphere. I was expecting a diner type place (nothing wrong with that), but everything was so clean, and the decor was sharp. I especially liked the booths because they were tall and felt much more private and not like I was having a conversation with my husband AND the neighboring table. now, onto the food. we both got seasonal dishes. my husband got pumpkin pancakes, and I got apple cider french toast. again, I was totally taken by surprise at the plating and general "prettiness" of the dish. the brioche bread they used was outstanding. not the sad, soggy texas toast you get in most places. it stood up to the apples, sauce, and syrup. next, the apples were SO good. I truly appreciate the fact that they used fresh apples and a homemade sauce instead of an apple pie filling...they were crunchy and a lovely contrast with the french toast itself. my husband's pancakes (yes, I had to try a tinyyyyy bite) were also wonderful. sweet and moist because of the pumpkin. the tangy cream cheese sauce on top paired perfectly with the pancakes. but I'm definitely glad I got the french toast because I think they were a bit more unique and interesting. I highly recommend this place. I can't wait to go back because I want to try about half...
Read moreA Delicious Breakfast Spot with Must-Try Five-Egg Omelettes
If you’re looking for a breakfast spot with hearty and flavorful options, this place should be on your list. Their five-egg omelettes are absolutely amazing! While $16 might feel a little pricey, especially since we skip the side items (we’re on a keto diet), the quality of the food makes it worth it.
The omelettes are generously sized and packed with flavor. A standout is the one with creamy goat cheese—it’s rich, indulgent, and an absolute must-try. The combination of flavors is spot on, making it a favorite for us every time. If you’re not on a keto diet, I’d recommend trying their pancakes as well. When I used to have them, they were fluffy, perfectly cooked, and delicious.
Another highlight is their freshly squeezed orange juice. You can tell it’s made on-site, and it pairs perfectly with any meal.
The only downside is that they don’t adjust the price if you skip the side items (like hashbrowns or pancakes), which feels a little unfair. However, the quality of the food makes up for it.
Be aware—this place is always packed. Whether it’s a weekday or a weekend morning, expect a busy atmosphere. But honestly, that’s a testament to how good it is! If you’re willing to wait, the food won’t disappoint.
Overall, if you’re in the mood for a fantastic breakfast with top-notch omelettes and fresh ingredients, you won’t regret...
