EDDIE B SAVED ME $10,000.00 !!!!!!!
My Central air gave up the ghost, I installed it myself in 2007 so, I guess I wasn't all that surprised BUT, I called "Horizon" (the orange trucks) first to come check it out, the tech was nice but the first words out of his mouth was "aw man, you probably need an entire new HVAC system , which is $16,000.00, (yes, SIXTEEN THOUSAND) then proceeds to ask if I want to get it running right again? It's 90° INSIDE MY HOUSE, darn right I want it running!!! So without using a "sniffer" to look for leaks, or ANY diagnostics AT ALL, he charged my system with 4 pounds of R-22, half of what my 8 ton system took in full, for $1,033.00. I could buy THIRTY (30) pounds of R-22 for $985.00 if my license to purchase freon didn't expire a few years ago and charge it myself. Buy, anyway, He did ZERO diagnostics, didn't even use a "sniffer" to see if I had a large leak or if the leak was from a replaceable/repairable part like one of the copper high or low pressure line runs. Just charged me $1,033.00 for $132.00 worth of R-22. I understand a 20, 30 or even 40% markup but that's $233.75 per pound AFTER you subtract their $98 fee just to ring your door bell. (A mark up from about $33/pound their cost to $233.75 per pound) 3 days later my system was freezing up again, so I called Eddie B who was recommended by a fellow Firefighter and he showed up the next morning, doesn't even try to sell me a "system charge" , he looks over the system and tells me the "Z-coil" is leaking more than likely and it would cost almost as much for a full diagnosis than it would be for an entire new system.(now I'm thinking hesa little funny too if a diagnostics cists close to $16,000.00) So I asked for a price of a full system, TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS LESS than what Horizon quoted me!!!! Even said he's absolutely NOT going to charge the system to "get me by" for a few days while parts get shipped in. A week later his overly courteous, very friendly and non intrusive installers had my new system in and running by noon. And they showed up literal at 8AM on the dot as they said they would. Even ran a new wire to my Thermostat so I can now use the "C-wire" for the fan only option and make it compatible with smart T-stats , which I'm buying from them later but, I could now buy a cheap "Amazon" smart T-stat (which are all made by Honeywell anyway) and install it myself if I wanted to or just manually use the "fan only" option on a dumb T-stst , AND he didn't charge me to pull the new cable or for the cable itself and hooked it up to my T-stat for me. I haven't read all the reviews but I've since talk ro a LOT of people who've used Ed and if you read a bad review, it's probably from the type that complains about everor, one of his competitors. 10/10 will never call or recommend anyone but Eddie B plumbing for the...
Read moreTLDR- don’t call them if you need an estimate/work done in a reasonable timeframe.
I’ve used Eddie B over the past few years and my family has been using them for several years before that. Service and quality was always fine to good- there’s likely a positive review from at least one of us from a past project. This time, I called them for an estimate to replace two fixtures and two small (so far) but active leaks. I set up the appointment a week before we settled on our house because we did want to get things knocked out as soon as possible. I didn’t call anyone else to compare quotes because I trusted them as a company. The problems we have had this time around I’m guessing boils down to poor communication? They came out two weeks ago- several hours past the appointment time I had scheduled. No call confirming the appointment or notifying me that they were running so late. Not a big deal but it definitely would have been nice. At two hours past our scheduled appointment time, I had to call to ask if they were coming/make sure I hadn’t written down the wrong day somehow.
Someone came out, he seemed professional and was courteous. Said we would get an estimate in 1-2 days. Sounded great! We waited. He was there on Monday, we didn’t hear anything by Thursday so I called to check in. Told we would receive the estimate early the following (this) week. That’s not great, but ok. We waited. I called again yesterday and was told someone would call me back today. I called around 4 today since I still hadn’t heard anything. I was told the person working on our estimate was out at a job all day that we might get the estimate sometime early next week. I said that it’s been two weeks of no response and that we have active leaks. I received an apathetic response at best from their office staff.
If they had at any point said they were too busy to take on a new project, that would have been completely fine. Likewise, if they were able to schedule the fix for the leaks and said they’d have a quote for the bigger things in a few weeks- fine. Waiting for two weeks with no communication while not being able to use our washing machine or basement sink to avoid a more significant problem developing is not at all fine. It’s now two weeks later and we’re scrambling trying to find someone more responsive and reliable. It’s disappointing as we have a ton of renovation work ahead of us and were genuinely looking forward to working with a contractor we were already familiar with for this and a few...
Read moreI can't say enough praise for Eddie B. Plumbing. We have been using them for years, and this last time they stepped up to the plate in a big way. We were on a cruise ship somewhere in the Caribbean Sea when our pet sitter informed us that our heater was not working. Through coordination with our pet sitter, emails and calls, Eddie B Plumbing handled the problem immediately, ordered the required part and brought back heat in our house. This was a challenging coordination due to our location, our alarm system, and our Pet Sitter's schedule. Don't worry, our pets were fine as they were in a room with baseboard heating.
This is an outstanding company, and we are...
