I just want to be left alone to exercise. I go to the gym alone so there is no one to spot me. I don't clip the weights so I can still use free weights and full range of motion and slide the weights off the bar if I fail. They had a problem with that and I feel unsafe benching with clipped weights alone. Most staff would offer to spot me which is customer service but the owner would just tell me to leave. I went in jeans between jobs as I didn't have time to change and couldn't take the clothes with me and got kicked out. (I cant wear gym clothes to my job). Thats their right to do that, fine so I told them to cancel my membership. When I told them I wish to cancel the owner told me "I'll cancel later Im training someone right now". Im not going to wait an hour in the gym that wont let me exercise to cancel. Telling someone "you'll cancel later" is not only refusing me service to exercise but refusing me service to cancel. They could've said "Let me get someone that can help you". They could've said "I'll contact you once Im done" I called the general business number to cancel and they said Id have to go back and wait so I asked for a supervisor. Now Im waiting for an email from them since they obviously weren't able to get my gym's location to pick up the phone... not surprised. This is why I don't give gyms my bank account. The gym is nice but the employees are terrible. Staff your gym so that you can help your customers. I went back a second time to cancel to find a sign posted saying theyd arrive several hours late. I then arrived at the time the sign said a third time to find the office empty and lights on. After waiting by it for 15 minutes I started asking people if they work there to find the owner come walking over. He said āIm not working today Im just exercisingā. I asked why the sign said theyd be there and why they were late and he said āWhat do you want me to do about that.ā Worst of all after three attempts to cancel I was finally told all I had to do to cancel was email him and āheāll get back to meā. Really? You couldnt tell me the first time to email you instead of āIāll cancel later?ā I was told over the phone I had to sign things and Im not convinced my membership is even cancelled yet. The other staff were more helpful and would offer to spot me but the owner has no concept of customer service. If that means more employees or better ones to fix this so be it. I shouldn't wait an hour during normal business hours to cancel. I shouldnt have to visit three times only to be told āIāll get back to youā. Im taking my business elsewhere and if you live in Denver I'd suggest the same. I will never do...

I cancelled my membership a full year ago in writing. Recently I discovered a threatening voicemail on my phone (image attached) saying I owe nearly $300, and if I donāt pay theyāll send me to collections. Excuse me, what!? I could not find any email explaining this charge.
Iāve been living outside the USA all of 2024. I began my membership at a different AF location, so I donāt know why this Denver AF location is even managing my cancelled account. The manager/owner of my original AF location I signed up with was great.
The only interaction I had with the manager at this Denver AF location was when the Stairmaster chain dangerously broke while I was on it in late 2023. Luckily I avoided injury, and when I informed the manager he mumbled something I canāt remember and showed zero concern/care if I was okay. And for the remainder of my contract the machine was out of order, making it impossible to actually use the one machine I went to this gym for.
My change of residence, poor customer service, and dangerous equipment obviously led me to cancel my membership.
Also, note there are no lockers. I would often walk to this gym, and could not easily store my keys and other things safely.
Iām a responsible senior manager with an 809 credit score. I just wanted to go to a gym and get a good workout. Why Iām being harassed for some ridiculous amount/charges by someone Iāve never met I do not understand.
I never did any personal training, and when I had a contract my monthly charge was $75. How can they possible think I owe anything, let alone $300??
There are enough other...
