I really enjoy shopping here. I acknowledge that it is a luxury to be able to shop at one of these single-use plastic-free stores since it is expensive. I hope that more neighbors who are able and willing to pay more to reduce their carbon footprint will. Shopping at hyperlocal and niche stores like Nude Foods, JoyFill, and Zero Market is sustainable activism because it is voting with our dollars. I am slowly and surely using up my pantry items and restocking by visiting here. Their glass containers are very heavy so I recommend bringing your transferable containers so you can save a trip to return their glassware. For example, when buying canola oil, bring your empty plastic oil container to the store. Purchase the glass bottle oil (there is no bulk oil to fill), dump the oil into your lightweight container, then return the glass bottle. That way you get to reuse your existing oil bottle and reduce the weight on your bike for the ride home. Apologies for anyone looking for popcorn kernel this week. I did clean out their entire bulk section of popcorn kernel, and I look forward to munching on a lot of home-popped popcorn in my future. I do wish that their bulk section is more extensive. The corner storefront has a small footprint so I can see why having a lot more packaged pantry items can be convenient for neighbors who want to pick up something quickly then walk home. However, glass is heavy and I would much prefer to bring my own reusable bags and containers to fill up on items. I do wish that they have a section of bulk loose leaf teas. I go out of my way to visit Zero Market to stock up on tea, and although I love the Edgewater area, I wish I could pick up tea closer to home. There are many opportunities for improvement here, and from my interactions with the lovely staff, I am confident that they will sort out these things. I really want Nude Foods to be successful in the neighborhood. It’s an awesome store and I look forward to...
Read moreBig fan of this place. With a relatively small footprint, they manage to sell high-quality staples, ingredients, and prepared meals. The sustainability model is well executed and highly effective, as others have noted. The staff I've interacted with are friendly and invested in making it work for you. I've tried to compare prices with other stores, and I think that Nude's are actually pretty good, especially given the quality. They occasionally offer sales that are an absolute steal, too.
Also, turns out glass is great. Easy to clean, shows you exactly what you're buying, holds pretty much anything, super sustainable. Nude Foods has QR codes on interchangeable jars, and all of their products are detailed online. It's so easy to walk in the door, dump your empties, and pick up pre-filled containers. After your third or fourth visit, your pantry will look much nicer and you'll be wondering why more grocery stores aren't...
Read moreVery pretty market and great concept environmentally to an extent (filling glass jars from large plastic continars not sure how much is saved). Nice friendly staff, a few great local food company products I have had from elsewhere sold here also. Better bulk things than sprouts in some things. But this seems targeted for rich folks. I went in because of an advertised cucumber soup in the emails, turns out you have to buy it with 3 other jars as a set, none of which I wanted (cant eat chile oil, hate quinoa, dont remember the 3rd one) there were also vegetarian meals where if i could have bought the main part without sides I would have. I'll be back to return my jars for the $deposit back but not sure...
