I recently had an extremely unfortunate experience at city park yesterday 04/14/15. My group had the 11:54am tee time and we were running a little behind. As I entered the shop at 11:43am and stated my tee time, I was promptly told that my tee time had been given away and we would not be able to golf. I inquired as to why and they said that we were late for our time. Clearly we were 10 minutes ahead of our time. The entire group was checked in and ready to tee off at 11:50. I was told to go and speak with the starter to see when we would be teeing off. The starters name is Bud and he told us that he had given away our tee time and that we had lost our time. While he said this, we asked who was in the middle of #1 fairway. He told us that the 11:45 time was in the fairway and that the 12:03 tee time was waiting on the tee box. Bud proceeded to argue with us that our time was lost and that he didn't know when we would be able to go play. I asked for a time frame and he said not until 2pm, when his tee sheet was open from 1:00-1:20pm. At this point, tempers were flared and foul language was exchanged between our group and Bud the starter. During this argument the 12:03 tee time was still waiting on the 11:45 tee time to clear the fairway. We told Bud that we thought he was a terrible and rude starter to which he replied, " you are terrible customers." We promptly went to the shop to receive a refund and told the shop attendants about the entire situation. They said sorry that Bud was rude, but offered no other form of correcting this terrible customer service. As they refunded us, I realized that they had lost a tee time, lost $150+ in green fee revenue, another $60-100 in dinks and food. Therefore due to the lack of customer service, the rudeness of the staff and the abrasiveness of the whole situation, the golf course lost roughly $250. My entire group has worked in the golf industry for 5+ years and we have never had a worse overall experience at a golf course. We will not be going back to City Park Golf Course and I do not recommend anyone go there. Note to the Staff at Park City Golf Course: PLEASE IMPROVE YOUR CUSTOMER SERVICE or let your patrons know that they will be treated poorly at...

When City Park re-opened last fall, it was like the game of Golf had a re-birth in the hearts and souls of loyal golf fans state-wide. The excitement was palpable. Word was spreading at how magnificent the new layout was and how the clubhouse was worthy of becoming a tourist destination. Foremost was the buzz around how amazing the greens were.

After playing the course last September, I became one of the frenzied enthusiasts touting the magnificence of this golf experience. The greens! Oh my goodness, the greens. They could easily be compared to the greatness of TPC Colorado and any exclusive country club in the state. Simply amazing Bentgrass perfection. The million dollar question could not be ignored.....could the staff at City Park maintain the greatness of this course? Could City Park's conditions finally remove the age-old reputation of greens conditions that have plagued Denver Parks for decades?

As of year 2021, the answer quite unfortunately is no. What a shame to see these once amazing greens slowly turn into the "muni" status quo once again. Should heavy traffic and thoughtless golfers kill the dream of making City Park's greens the best in Colorado? Absolutely not. Keeping the greens in country club shape takes small actions to accomplish. Some food for thought for the staff at City Park:

Have a clubhouse staffer drive the course twice daily to repair ball marks Grounds and greens staff can repair ball marks mid-day Include ball mark repair as part of the beverage cart staff duties. Post signage to remind players to repair marks. At check in, hand golfers a pamphlet on course etiquette including USGA ball mark repair steps.

It's the little things that will make this course continue to stand out. ...

I unfortunately had a very negative experience (actually THREE separate incidents in a two hour window) at this course, which is very disappointing because I live a mile away and was planning on being a regular customer but will now have to go elsewhere. My boyfriend set a tee time for 6:30 pm which is the soonest we can get there after work, and was told it was fine if we did an 18. Additionally, we asked if it was ok if I went along to check out the course even though I'm injured and can't play and were told that was fine if we rented a cart so that's what we did. Fast forward to the 10th hole and an employee who was practicing told us we couldn't golf that hole because he wanted to practice there. When we explained that we had reserved for 18 he basically implied that we hadn't paid for it and that we were trying to sneak on, then finally conceded but told us to be really quick. On the 12th hole someone came and told us we had to stop even though it was only 8:15 and not dusk yet and was again really rude and dismissive. We agreed to leave and went in to ask for a six hole voucher (which we were told was possible) only for the guy at the desk to refuse us because he claimed we owed money because I had ridden along (he was saying we should have paid an additional 27$...to not golf!). It was such a negative experience all around and a pretty basic course anyway so my advice is stay away if you expect any type of customer service or basic decency...

It's a decent parkland golf course. It looks like they spent a lot of money on the renovation but ran out of money when working on the front 9. The back nine is nice. It plays on the side of the property that faces downtown and as a result, has a little character and style. There's more elevation changes on the back. The front nine is boring, uninspired, flat, muni golf. I wasn't impressed with the bunkering complexes. I thought they could have been deeper and more penal. City Park also falls victim to the cardinal sin of an architect that's squeezed for room. They try to make up the distance on the par 3's. The course tips out at 6703 (which isn't much at altitude) but the Par 3's are 245, 212, 207, 157, and 214). Especially on the front where it's flat, straight, and boring. I would have loved to see them extend the 4th hole and make it a longer Par 4 and shorten the Par 3 fifth but make it interesting by surrounding a smaller green with deep bunkers. But instead you're left with two forgettable holes on a course that has more than it's fair share of those. Practice areas are hit and miss. The putting green is solid. Driving range uses limited flight balls and is mats only. The mats are in fair to poor condition. The chipping green also leaves a lot to be desired. Not much area to practice from thinner lies. very patchy rough around most of the chipping green.
