My surgeon and his team were awesome!!! Except for 1 or 2 staff on the floor after my surgery I have NEVER BEEN TREATED SO BADLY. You would be shocked at what was done to me. One example is, I was put in a reclining chair next to my bed (this was the day after my spinal surgery on my neck (c3-c7) . I had been vomiting still and because I was in so much pain that I was not able to obey their order to walk the hall more so she put me in the chair and told me I had to sit in it for 1 hour. She made it recline so I could not get out of it and left for about a hour. In the meantime even though I have a neck brace on it hurt sooooo bad to be in there and I started to get vomit coming up and I couldn't sit up or turn on my side so I wouldn't choke on my vomit. I pushed the call button and they ask over the speaker what I want, well I'm panicking because of obvious reasons and still no Nurse. I ring the button AGAIN, and just another repeat of the above action (nothing). Ok now I'm really starting to panic, I ring the button AGAIN. Finally I get what I thought was someone to help me and guess what she did? She made sure I knew who was boss and unless I settled down she was just gonna stand there, and I know the first 2 times when I said to her I need to be sat up straight so I don't choke on my vomit that she most definitely could understand, on the 3rd time I was probably not as understandable but she had to see the panic in my eyes. She seriously kept just standing there. Also I had to call one girl out on her attitude and a lie I caught her in concerning my pain medicine and when she told me I was due for it again and when it was that time I rang for them to bring it to me and it ended up being so late because I believe because I called her out in front of her friends that were there and heard it all.
At one point my pain medicine was 1 1/2 hours late.
I'm sure I probably shouldn't be posting even just these couple things because now they got a heads up about some of what I've been through. Oh well, I just really hope this can help any other people from going through this. AND trust me there is more but I think you all get the idea.
I was treated so badly that even though I was NOWHERE READY TO GO HOME, I WENT HOME AS SOON AS THE DRAINAGE TUBE WAS OUT. AND I CRIED WHILE TELLING MY NIECE ABOUT WHAT THEY DID TO ME. I still can't get it out of my mind 😦. If I had the time and energy to tell you all the...
Read moreI recently visited Detroit Receiving Hospital and had a deeply frustrating and disappointing experience. While the staff I interacted with were professional and helpful, my overall experience highlighted significant systemic issues within the hospital.
I went to the emergency room for an abscess that required draining, and while I understand the delays that come with being a Level 1 trauma center, I ended up waiting over 12 hours for treatment. After my procedure, there was very little communication about my prescription—where to go, when to pick it up, or what to do if there were issues. Considering I required antibiotics, this was a critical oversight.
Trying to schedule a follow-up appointment has been another nightmare. The phone lines frequently drop, and when I do reach someone, they seem frustrated, which I understand might stem from systemic stress rather than individual fault. However, the lack of clear processes and communication has made it nearly impossible for me to receive proper post-care treatment.
What’s most alarming is how this experience underscores the disadvantages faced by residents in majority-minority cities. If this is my experience as someone with the resources to advocate for myself, I cannot imagine the challenges faced by individuals without the same privileges.
There’s a strong push to revitalize downtown Detroit, but the state of essential services like healthcare makes me question how anyone would want to live here, especially families. Reliable and accessible healthcare is a basic necessity, and this experience has left me disheartened and deeply conflicted.
I feel compelled to call for accountability and improvement because this is not just my story; it’s the reality for so many others. People deserve better care, communication, and infrastructure from their healthcare systems.
Update: I appreciate that the hospital manager personally reached out to address my concerns with empathy and urgency. Most importantly, they took action by contacting the appropriate department directly and assisting with scheduling my follow-up appointment on my behalf. While systemic issues remain, I want to acknowledge that the staff I’ve worked with have been great throughout this process. I truly appreciate the effort to review my experience and be part...
Read moreTo Whom It May Concern,
I am writing to express my deep dissatisfaction with the service provided by your hospital on 4/16/2023. I was admitted to the hospital for a possible Heart Attack, and I was extremely disappointed with the care I received.
Firstly, I was made to wait in a chair in the hallway for an extended period of time before being moved to a bed in an empty wing of the hospital. I understand that hospitals can be busy, but this was unacceptable and unprofessional. I felt neglected and ignored by the staff, who seemed to have no concern for my well-being.
Once I was moved to the bed, I lay there for three hours without any communication from a nurse or doctor. I found this experience distressing and unacceptable. It is unacceptable to leave a patient alone for such an extended period without any updates or check-ins.
After three hours of waiting, I decided to leave the hospital. I was shocked that nobody had noticed my absence until I reached the exit door, where I was stopped and instructed to write a formal complaint.
The level of service I received from your hospital was unethical and unacceptable. As a patient, I deserve to be treated with respect, dignity, and professionalism. I felt that my care was not a priority to your staff, and this is unacceptable.
I would also like to mention that I sought medical attention at a different hospital shortly after leaving yours. There, it was found that my blood pressure was at a critical level, which was alarming and concerning. However, the staff at the other hospital treated me with the utmost care, respect, and professionalism. They listened to my concerns and worries, and I felt like I was taken seriously as a patient. This only highlights the stark contrast between the level of service I received at your hospital and the level of care that is expected in the healthcare industry.
I urge you to investigate this matter thoroughly and take the necessary steps to ensure that this does not happen to any other patients in the future. I expect a prompt response to this complaint and a plan for...
