I recently attended a Father's Day Luncheon, titled "Real Dads Speak" here at the DSO. This was my very first time going to DSO and I'm sadly very disappointed in the experience my family and I received.
I paid $337.00 for 4 tickets.
The cost breakdown was: $100.00 per adult (3) and $25.00 for children under 13 (1), plus tax.
Based on the Detroit Symphony Orchestra website advertisement we found via Google, we were expected to receive the following at this event:
Host An MC Class Act Band Comedian Mike Bonner DJ Rod S Premium Taste Catering Door Prizes
Upon arrival we received a cheaply made paper gift bag with a rubber wristband and an ink pen enclosed. Seating was not arranged according to the seat information provided on the tickets. The program was scheduled to begin at 3pm based on the information provided with the order of service.
The program started approximately 15 - 20 minutes late.
Dinner was scheduled to be served at 4pm. Dinner came out around 4:15 pm. The quality of food served was ok but definitely not worth the cost. Shortly after food was served the MC announced the comedian Mike Bonner was having car troubles and was stuck in Indiana and unable to attend.
This was very unfortunate news to hear because he was the main attraction. He was the reason I thought the cost was worth it.
Note: This information was also revealed very casually with no mention to reimburse any portion of the expenses paid.
The MC just jokingly laughed it off and said something along the lines of "The show will go on and you all can hear more of the band".
Then the MC went on to begin playing a few trivia games asking "Father's Day" questions and during this time it appeared as though some of the questions asked were purposely geared towards her family in the audience. She announced her cousin and other relatives winning gifts often throughout the event. At this point I felt like l'd been completely ripped off.
I could also tell they didn't sell all of their seats because several tables were empty. I couldn't believe a place with such a high name would be attached to such an occasion.
"They sold these tickets to the General Public for a premium cost and delivered dollar store service, were my thoughts" to say the least.
I wanted to do something very nice for Father's Day. This experience was very disappointing....
