I’ve been a loyal customer of Alma Mía since day one—ordering ice cream 2–3 times a week and recommending it to so many people. The quality has always been great, and the woman who makes the ice cream is always warm and kind, which is part of what’s made the experience so special.

Unfortunately, today I had a disappointing moment that really shifted how I feel. I placed a $70+ order for my daughters, and kindly asked for two small pieces of chocolate (the same ones they add on top when you eat it in-store) to be placed on the side. I was told it was no problem, and we were all so excited—especially my girls.

But when the order arrived, the chocolates weren’t there. I called to ask what happened, and I was told that the owner refused to include them because they needed to be charged for—even though I had already been told they would be included. There was no courtesy call to let me know, no willingness to honor the original agreement, and ultimately no regard for me as a regular customer or for the joy of my little ones.

What’s sad is that this isn’t the first time I’ve felt this kind of indifference from the owner. I continued to support the business anyway, hoping things would improve, but today was a reminder that not everyone who runs a business values their community. Sometimes it’s the small things that speak the loudest.

The staff was no smiles and serious face. No English was spoken, so it was really hard to communicate with her. Sample tasting the gelato was somewhat awkward as staff simply stared quietly at us without the smile. That very smile that we have all grown accustomed to be associated with good business practice.

The place appears festive, but the festivity ended right there as the attitude does not match the surroundings. The portions handed out were really small for the price paid ($9 for their really small so called "medium" cup). Our cups had large air pockets within, which means we got even less gelato.

I had the pistachio and the ferraro rocher. I have to say that I did not taste the pistachio flavor, and I tried hard to find that taste. The rocher was all cookies and less gelato rocher itself.

I just question how fresh the gelatos are. Some flavors were very low almost barely anything left. However, it didn't seem like it ran out today because the entire contrainer was squeaky clean except for that tiny last scoop. And the store wasn't busy at all during prime time. Leftovers from previous days it seems? I avoided those flavors.

Serving size was small for the price. I've had bigger servings elsewhere. The got the hazelnut and kinder flavors. The flavors were muddled and hard to tell which was which.

Overall, the gelato was creamy but very sweet. They only had 1 sugar free option available. I was expecting a lot more when I saw such high google reviews but much ado...
