Rio San Gabriel Park — Attraction in Downey

I have a tiny Pomeranian mix, so I was OVERJOYED at the fact that the small dogs and the big dogs are separated. I just wish more people came here during the week, because sometimes we're the only ones and that's not too fun. The only complaint I have is that some people don't know how to pick up after their dogs. Obviously that isn't the park's fault, but they could have more frequent maintenance so you don't go home with stinky shoes every time. Also, I don't think the dog fountain there has been cleaned in quite a while. Just to be safe, we always bring a travel bowl and a bottle of water from home for our dog. Also, there is barely any shade on in the small dog area, so bring some sunglasses or a hat. Other than those little things, it's a cute little grassy area with very nice people that come to visit. Small and really clean. But the parking is limited get here early for any events . The stores are close. And the streets to get here are very tight, so leave the big cars at home. Perfect place for a lunch and small picnic or just a half day with the kids. And not to far from the Freeway but just out of the way enough to discouraged the trouble makers. This is an excellent park. Plenty of free space and parking. most of all, this park has an adult pull up bar. There's two baseball diamonds, two playgrounds, a dog park, a basketball court, and plenty of benches, shade, and trash cans. It's open beyond sunset and has more then sufficient lighting at night. On the northern end by the dog area is an opening that'll Grant you access to the river walking trail.
