Came in late December during the holiday season for some fresh air. This park is the hidden crown jewel of Gwinnett. It is more well maintained and better historically preserved than many National Parks and Historic Sites I've seen in the country!
Trails: Paved trails galore! And no potholes or bad muddy spots either. This makes for such a smooth walking experience. I saw folks biking and thought that a great idea.
Historic Preservation: The signage in the park is pristine. Either they cleaned off people writing on signage (which seems to always inevitably happen in most parks) or most people, like me, are so impressed by the park that they wouldn't dare deface anything in the first place. The lack of graffiti or defacing really made you feel like you were traveling back decades into the time the McDaniels worked the land!
Also, there's no shortage of stuff to see. Although due to COVID there were no house tours, I could peek into the tenant house and the main house to get a good sense of what it looked like in the inside, and I could tell Gwinnett Co. very thoroughly labeled all the historic artifacts, and there were many vintage items to give you a great sense of what living here used to be like. Once COVID lifts I can't wait to come back for a tour!
Bathrooms: This is such an important part of the park experience for me, and McDaniel doesn't disappoint. The bathrooms are very clean, with the doors open to circulate air (COVID reasons). The only improvement I can think of is the taps don't release hot water and the air dryer is not warm (which makes your hands frigid during the winter). But this is usually the case for most parks, so no minus points here for me.
And lastly, the people. It is so lovely seeing the diversity of Gwinnett come together to enjoy the park. Dog walkers, Pokemon Go-ers, people just needing a scenic place to have a long phone chat, veterans, and kids racing each other: this is the best of...
Read moreBeautiful park with well maintained walking trails and a dog park. There are 2 entrances to the park-one is off of Old Norcross Rd, which has the historic farm house and buildings and the other is off McDaniel Rd from Duluth Hwy/120, which is closest to the dog park and playground. There are multiple watering stations for people and dogs. There is a small stream with a nice large rock steps to get to the stream. Our dog loves to walk around in the ankle high water. The two sides connect through the trails and is about 1 mile from one entrance to the other. There are paved and dirt trails throughout the park with nice bathrooms at each entrance/parking lot and 2 large party pavilions available for reservation. There are a few small maps but they are not super clear. There's plenty of wildlife here including a herd of deer which are best seen in the early morning or evening. The park can be a little crowded on the weekends but not so much that you can't...
Read moreThis is by far one of the most peaceful and relaxing parks I have visited in Gwinnett County. As I was walking through the park, I felt a sense of calmness and peace come over my body. This is a park you could visit and meditate on the grass without being disturbed by anyone. The people at this park walk in a higher vibration and even their pets. Everyone is looking for peace and tranquility found in undisturbed nature and this park offers all of that including rich history. The deer felt comfortable to walk throughout the park with their family in tow almost sensing the vibes in the atmosphere that they would be left in peace to live in their natural environment. Also, a great park to bring your dogs for a long walk in nature and the family as well to escape from the hustle and bustle of life to just slow down and contemplate about the beauty found in nature. I truly thank my friend for inviting me for a walk through this lovely...
