This place is a little hole in the wall gem. Very authentic Korean BBQ. Pick your protein, vegetables and sauces and cook it on the metal dome at your table! Prices are reasonable. Quaint. I wouldn't take small children that may be tempted to touch the hot metal.
Update: May 2021
This was my second visit to Honey Pig. I wanted to suggest a place to my fiancee that was different from our usual haunts. This fit the ticket. My fiancee absolutely loved it. First of all their Covid precautions are second to none. Hand sanitizer and temperature taken at the door before you pass under some kind of "mister". We were seated immediately, no wait. We went at the perfect time (around 6pm), there were only two other tables seated. They filled up quickly not long after we got there.
We opted for the unlimited option B, so we could enjoy a variety and decide on what we really liked. They started us with kimchi and sprouts on the stove. Also served was a salad, a spicy soup (I don't do spicy but my fiancee enjoyed it very much, an egg based soup that had an interesting texture, didn't taste eggy but really had no flavor to me. Lastly they had corn kernels that came sizzling on the plate covered in cheese, totally loved it! Had two helpings!
We started with pork belly plain. They covered the hot dome top with nice sized pieces of meat while I tried to use the chop sticks (steel and wrapped for sanitization!). Now, I know how to use chop sticks, we have really nice ones at home we use. Their chop sticks are flat! Totally messed me up! The server finally asked me if I wanted a fork and I reluctantly said yes. They stopped by several times to adjust the heat and turn over the sizzling aromatic pork. When they said it was done to our preference (crispy outside) we dug in! It was delicious! I used the rice paper, some sprouts, a few greens from the salad and created a yummy wrap! We devoured our first choice and eagerly ordered the next, prime pork butt. We ordered the plain and marinated together. I was excited to try this due to the description on the website. Unfortunately on this selection I was disappointed. The meat was not as tasty as i expected and had gristle running through it. I know some people like that, but not me, it was off putting. The marinated meat tasted better but still grisly. We moved on to the beef bulgogi. It was by far my favorite! I was worried about spice but it was not spicy at all! It has a wonderful sweet savory flavor and the meat was tender. Now getting close to our full level we decided to try one more thing, the thin pork belly. When the server showed up with a plate heaping with meat we thought, "no way are we gonna finish that!" The meat cooked down and became smaller sizzling pieces but still quite a bit of meat. One of the servers had turned the heat down on our stove and we ended up turning it back up high so we could get the pieces crispier. Unfortunately the low heat had pretty much cooked the meat into chewy softer bites. We would have liked some crunch but it didn't stop us from gobbling it up anyway. If we had a do-over I think we would have tried the pork skin last At that point we hit our fill line and had happy tummies!
A quick note that the meals are a bit pricy and although we felt we mostly got our money's worth, I think it was a touch over-priced. Our servers were very friendly and accommodating and had no qualms about answering our questions. And they were nice enough not to laugh at my chop stick struggle! All in all, we were very pleased and will be back...
Read moreAs Honey Pig's #1 fan of 10+ years, I can't begin to rave about how amazing and consistently delicious this restaurant is.
FOOD Choose from the most wide range of marination-options for pork belly from Garlic, Wine, Green-Tea (apparently, it's only included with the Unlimited option), etc. You name it! For non-marinated pork belly, there are 2 types: Honey Pig (baby pig's meat) or Regular Pig. I personally like the Regular for its chewiness, but my friends and family like Honey more for its tenderness. Everything is cooked on top of a giant traditional kimchi lid. The lid's curved shape allows the meat's grease to evenly pass through the kimchi and bean sprouts (my favorite!) laid around the edges. This is the true way to eat Korean BBQ! Diverse selection of other food options like lobster, noodles, stew, bibimbap, etc. All are delicious. You really can't go wrong with anything here. At the end, ask for a complimentary spicy fried rice called Bokkeumbap. As it's also prepared for you on top of the lid, you can choose to include your leftover meat/veggies or not. They also provide cute Asian candies along with your receipt. :)
DINING & SERVICE First come, first serve. No reservations. Ambiance is lively and fun!!! So many cute pig decorations everywhere! You like your good-looking (or gangsta) Kpop boys? You'll have one as your waiter.
There are 123123123 Korean BBQ joints in Atlanta. I've tried everywhere from Breakers, Iron Age, etc. but NONE can really compete with Honey Pig's authentic pork belly, kimchi, and marinated bean sprouts. I've even had multiple family and friends visitng from Korea, and even the natives have told me that they've never had KBBQ as good as Honey Pig's.
Quality and authentic KBBQ experience. I hate to declare something the best, but Honey Pig is really THE BEST IN...
Read moreWhen we arrived, they greeted us, immediately seated us, and handed us the menus. Before even leaving the table to give us a moment to look at the menus they asked if we were ready to order. We replied no, told him if was my first time ever doing Korean BBQ and that we needed a minute. He left, we had exactly 10 seconds to look over the menu before another server asked if we were ready to order. "No", explain yet again that it's my first time ever trying Korean BBQ, he left, 2 seconds later yet another server asks if we're ready to order. This happens 2 more times with two more servers. I've still not had time to even look at my menu because they won't leave us alone long enough to look at it. My boyfriend gives up trying to explain the menu and simply orders for me. They leave and come back with food, silently place it on the "grill" and leave, no explanation of what anything is or what, if anything, we're supposed to do with everything they have laid on the table. They come back with the meat and place it on the grill, still say nothing about the side dishes already grilling. Leave again, this time all the servers sit down at a table together, apparently to eat dinner themselves. We sit there with our food cooking until it's shriveled and burnt when they finally come back and tell us, "Oh, you can eat this now". By the time we were told the food was prepared it was inedible and my stomach was in the process of eating itself. I did not eat that night and they still charged us a good 60-70 dollars. They ruined my date night after an already horrible day at work. We are...
