A few weeks ago I got a new phone. I took it to the Mac Ranch because I’ve used them as a resource of information and instruction in the past. I knew I wouldn’t be able to seamlessly transfer everything from my old phone to the new one, and I knew they could. WORTH EVERY PENNY.
But here’s the deal, KEVIN of the Mac Ranch, did the seamless transfer for me but ran into every glitch, challenge, obstacle, demand, and non-service response when it came to reconnecting me to Verizon. KEVIN initially said, “this won’t take more than 5-10 minutes.” Why was he so confident? Because he and the other employee at the store had done the exact same reconnect with their own new phones. That was not the case with my reconnect.
Without belaboring you who are reading this review to the point of anxious exhaustion, suffice it to say KEVIN stayed with the process with unflappable persistence during and after every failure imaginable from Verizon (they are truly a malevolent entity; Kafka could not have designed a more convoluted system rife with dead ends and zero service). It was over an hour, at least, that KEVIN pulled out every possible work-around to get my phone reconnected to Verizon (I’ve had that service for well over a decade; I am not a new customer).
Eventually, KEVIN walked me personally to the nearby Verizon store where he explained to the manager the difficulties he had experienced with the recalcitrant reconnect to Verizon.
Long story short the Verizon people spent over an hour before successfully doing the reconnect.
KEVIN is the real hero in this tale. From the outset (I was the first customer in the store that morning) until the entire task was completed (some three hours later), KEVIN was super calm, confident, professional, extraordinarily capable, and relentlessly focused on problem solving for me. He assured me I was not going to be left to handle this on my own (I am a dilettante when it comes to technology). KEVIN stayed in charge of the entire transfer of EVERYTHING from my old phone to my new one—including that multi-hour mess with Verizon.
A technologist of KEVIN’s caliber, character, and customer care is stratospherically rare! The Mac Ranch is fortunate to have him on their team. I was most fortunate to be accompanied through this maze of mystery and confusion, absolutely certain that KEVIN would not ever throw up his hands in disgust and frustration with what should have been a simple task (shame on Verizon). I am forever indebted to KEVIN for seeing the entire...
Read moreSome transparency, upfront would be nice. I described everything that was going on, including the new hardware inside. I fully understood what the problems were.
Were things feel short is when the young tech mentioned that the computer isn’t worth the time. Due to age of computer and the fact there is an OCB component that the company automatically address as faulty. All of this I mentioned up front but they decided to take the computer anyways and regurgitate the same information I gave them a week later and charge me for it.
I understand that you have to take in other considerations of what could be wrong with the computer. But not to even open it up and blow it off instantly once he jumps into the system files and nor offer an opportunity to replace the part that they will instantly call faulty. I would of rather spent the extra money instead being charged for something I already knew and explained. The overall discussion was pretty disappointing with the young tech.
The owner will go on to say that it was the OWC hard drive. When it could have not been, considering that there was multiple hard drives tested that was giving the same error. It was the lack of even wanting to work on it which upsetting and not even trying when noticing OWC installed which was disclosed before dropping off. The friendly guy at the desk did pull a technician from the back and was given the knowledge.
End of the story, thanks for trying to...
Read moreUnfortunately, you have to highlight at least one star in order to write a review. If I had the option I wouldn't even give this business one star. I walked in looking for an external hard drive to transfer data from a Windows based computer to a new iMac. I had called 4 times to see if they had what I was looking for and they did not ever pick up. While the store is nicely set up and they do have a small selection to choose from, they do not price match. I had just visited another local store which was out of stock of the drive I wanted. I asked the ranch if they would price match and he said that they couldn't because they had to sell it for what the manufacturer sold it for (which is false because their price was $50 more than what the other local store sold it for and I looked on the manufacturer website and they didn't even sell it for what the ranch sold theirs for). Then he proceeded to argue with me for 15 minutes about how what I wanted really wasn't what I wanted and claimed to be the store owner (also false). To top it off, he was going to charge me a 20% restocking fee if it didn't work and I brought it back. If it didn't work (unknown at the moment) it wouldn't be my fault. So why should I get charged to restock something that didn't work in the first place? This is not a good business in my opinion and I will never take my...
