Here’s a review in the grand and proud voice of Santa Anna: --- I have experienced a conquest of the senses in the far reaches of Durango, Colorado, at a place known as Taco Libre. It is here, in this humble establishment, that culinary excellence has been achieved, and I must proclaim its greatness to all who will listen! First, the Lucha Taco with steak – *a triumph,* as tender and flavorful as any victory on the battlefield. It stood tall, delivering satisfaction with every bite. And then, *ah,* the Gringa Taco with chorizo – fiery, bold, and perfectly balanced, *a taco worthy of legends.* As for the drinks, the Mexican lager was a refreshment fit for a general – crisp, cool, *the very nectar of triumph.* But the skinny margarita? *¡Caramba!* It was nothing short of divine. A drink that could soothe even the fiercest of hearts and leave one longing for more. Now, let me speak of dessert. The fried ice cream – rich, indulgent, yet delicate in its beauty. But the true *highlight* of the evening, the crowning glory, was the churro. *Ah, the churro!* Its filling, warm and decadent, was unforgettable – a treasure that one must experience to understand. In all my years of conquest and glory, I have seldom encountered such a place of excellence. The service was impeccable, the ambiance inviting, and the food... *unparalleled.* Mark my words, I shall return to Taco Libre, for this is no ordinary dining experience – it is *a victory* of flavor.

The front of the house staff was very nice. The guy who took our order was helpful and very patient. We ordered and they gave us a number and we sat down. Our food arrived to us before our drinks. The food was absolutely awful. The “queso” is just nacho cheese like from a carnival and their salsa is sweet not spicy. They burned my noodles in the birra ramen. The waitress asked if I wanted them to redo it. I said yes please and she scoffed and took my plate and rolled her eyes as she walked away. They brought back under cooked noodles this time. I didn’t bother eating it. They didn’t even bring the rice and beans for my kids meals that I ordered. I went up to ask for a refund for the sides I didn’t get. Even after telling the waitress they were missing and no one bringing anything over. The gentleman at the front “said” he was refunding me even refunded my birra ramen when I told him about what happened. It’s been days and have yet to see a refund come through. We ended up getting Chinese after this because it was so badly flavored. We have gone to 5 other restaurants downtown and they were way better! If you want good Mexican food this isn’t the stop for you. The one thing my kids loved is the wrestling decor all over the restaurant. It did have wonderful atmosphere.

Tacos por los que vale la pena luchar!!! Tacos Libre is legit. Located in a super cool brick building, the decor and music and ambience set a festive tone. The staff couldn’t be friendlier; Luis and Alegría were awesome. We had chips w/ salsa, guac, and queso to start; the chips are light and crispy, guac is excellent, and the salsa is smoky and flavorful, w/ just a touch of a kick. I always go with street tacos so I can sample more flavors, and here I went with Birria, carne asada, and al pastor. My personal favorite was the Birria, but I love a taco that drips down my arm when I bite it ;). todos los tacos estaban requisimo!! The Birria was juicy and tender and the consommé is rich and delicious and made me want a cup of it to drink. 🤤 They definitely have the flavor right with the Al pastor, it is delicious. The carne asada….who doesn’t love a tasty & tender steak taco? tacos por los que vale la pena luchar!! Against our better judgement (because I should prob skip a few desserts), we got the flan and the churros for dessert, and it was a highlight. It would be worth coming here just for dessert and a cafecito! If you find yourself in Durango, hit up Taco Libre!

Third time here, and the last. I have always been disappointed coming here, but as the other people I'm with don't seem to hate it as much as I do, I just went with it. This time we actually came in because my kid really needed to use the restroom, and I felt guilty not ordering something. :P

Since I was with two minors, my kiddos, we were not allowed to sit in the front area. Fine, that's understandable I guess, even though there is no bar service so not exactly sure why it would be a problem. So off to the back we went, where nobody else was. I mean, it kind of sucks to eat at an empty restaurant...but it really sucks to be stuck in the back of a busy one. Especially when the bartenders were basically minors themselves.

But then they bring me my margarita, in a plastic cup, with no salt on the rim. I asked for salt and a real glass, and was informed that no actual glasses are allowed in the back room. Maybe not a big deal to some, but I don't want to feel like I'm at a high school keg party when I'm out at a restaurant.

Finally, they bring out our food and deliver the hottest chicken nuggets I've ever touched to my 4 year old. If you're not going to allow kids in the front or glass in the back, it sounds like you have issues with age or something...so you'd think that you'd know not to hand a blazing hot plate of food to a toddler.

The best thing about this experience was just that it cemented the fact that I won't be going back and will probably go out of my way to complain about the place to everyone who ever mentions the word...
