Popped in here for lunch, during a recent visit to Durango. We didn't really realize it was a hotel, at first, we went in to eat, after perusing the menu for the Diamond Belle, which is posted outside. I am not a red meat eater but once in a while I like to try a French Dip sandwich mainly to dip the yummy bread in the au jus. Before I even put the first bite in my mouth, I knew this was going to be delicious! After the first bike, I knew this was the best French Dip sandwich I had ever had! The bread was light, tasted freshly baked, and more than adequately soaked up the delicious broth. The meat was thinly sliced, melt in your mouth tender, perfectly warm, and the cheese was gooey goodness! The aju was quite flavorful and not too salty. It was just the right balance of seasoning which I appreciated as sometimes it's so salty your sandwich is ruined. My daughter ordered a Ruben and she concurred that it was the best sandwich she had eaten in a long time. Our server was also bartending and super friendly and fun! Our water glasses never ran out and the Arnold Palmer I splurged on was a perfect blend of lemonade and unsweet iced tea. We were thankful that we arrived early because by the time we left, the place was packed! After we ate, we started wandering around and realized that this restaurant was attached to a lovely, historic hotel. It was interesting to wander around and see all the historical artifacts. The restrooms were spotlessly clean, and all the staff smiled and greeted us, asking if we needed anything. Cannot wait to go back to Durango so I can have another French Dip and enjoy the fabulous atmosphere of the Strater Hotel!

Thanks for letting the manger D. let this get out of hand, have horrible customer service skills, and let four men harass me and your other female server. I was trying to kindly ask you to help me talk to them to resolve things, as nicely as possible, so I could sit down, and not let their scheme continue to pressure me to leave, because then at that point, they've won at their game anyway eyeballing me four times. That's harassment! They also tried to steal my seat with no respect to me in front of my face when I was trying to go to the bathroom. They were also very rude to me in person to justify things further. Why would I not go to a manger to ask to speak to them in person to resolve what's wrong? Clearly something went wrong here with communication, but that doesn't make it okay to harass me and force me to give them anything. That's not how open seating works. They also whispered into my server's ear in front of my face to make her do it too. To MAKE me give my seat to them? Do they not care how that might make me feel or damage my customer relationship with her in the future? I'm selfish? But what about them? Why did you not help me or take action against this, or ask them to leave after all of that? They were jealous theifs basically. Thanks for being a coward, and I hope you get fired, even if it's slow. You twisted a lot of things that I tried to communicate to you. That's wrong. Changing several things that you say within a few mintues time apart, is a type of gaslighting. I hope people continue to speak up about you and against your job until you have to leave it, and the same for those 4 men who made me uncomfortable during my stay in my booth, because they were jealous, but the writing was on the wall that they should have left, since the restaurant was already packed and got so very quickly, and that's just life. Making another customer who got there first and nobody was saving the seat....well that's just life, but you need to stop being a coward and help your customers defend their stay, even if it makes someone else's imperfect.

And you need to find a nice way to tell customers, that if a restaurant is packed, and the booth they want isn't available, they need to find another venue, and maybe give them another cupon. This was the same exact booth that Tori placed me at 3 or 4 days before.

And you LIED to me in front of other staff that other servers have complained about me. Maybe my server complained about me, but it's the opposite of how she treated me. And I'm going to trust my intuition, and albeit either she didn't say much, or she didn't say much at all. She seemed like a sweet person. So you need to get your facts right D.

Also you saying that I've had issues like this mulitple times in previous stays is BULL. I had good first lunch stay the Belle. This is what. I told Tori. The second time, nobody would seat me or even acknowledge me, and it was a young guy two feet in feet in front of me, who ignored me for like 2 mins straight. So Tori put me in that same booth at the Office HERSELF. And it was also happy hour. R. was a great server, and you were implying he said stuff about me behind my back when I recommended him for a promotion? This is when I had enough of you. You already asked me to leave, but then when this came out with my previous service and you twisted my reality to hurt me, implying R. had complained about me, I cried. So then you changed some more of your story, called, the cops and trespassed me! But another person at the front desk confirmed, YOU LIED.

You can call it just not being clear in your communication (on purpose), but you made it clear at the front desk what and who you were implying, and while it upset me more, you didn't care. That was probably part of your goal, to throw me off anyway, and it's WHY you refused to talk nicely with me with those customers anyway, while I completed my stay, because you avoid what you don't want to do, but should do, left your female server do it, and you're selfish chauv just...

The family and I had a wonderful time at this 1880s styled Western Hotel. I needed two beds for the four of us and ended up with the suite next to the Louie Lamar Suite. So my experience may not be quite the same as the other rooms. Everything has been nicely redone to look original even though it may be quite new. Our suite had one king size bed which was quite comfortable even though the mattress was really soft. The other bed was a pull-down Murphy bed which was queen sized. The front desk staff was friendly and knowledgeable. And if you need anything they are the go-to people. Including bath towels or toilet paper they kept them both behind the counter and are yours for the asking. The bathroom was Modern the only nod to it being in an older building was the 12-foot ceiling. If I was to nitpick anyting one thing would have to be the toilet. It is very close to the wall and if you're a tall or big a guy you will not be able to sit on it square for your knee will interfere with the toilet paper dispenser. The only other thing I would nitpick about the hotel or at least our room was the fact that the air-conditioning struggled to keep up. There were numerous windows in our suite however they only opened up about 4 in so there really wasn't much of a chance to let the cool summer or nighttime freezes come through. There were however ample power outlets to keep your devices charged. No refrigerators or microwaves in this room however there is a coffee maker. And three restaurants on the grounds. Parking is at a premium in Durango but this traitor has its own parking lot across the street. You will be given a parking lot pass when you check in keep it on your dash or you might get towed. The hotel is two blocks away from the Durango to Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad. If you get the chance ride that train it's not cheap but it will provide many fond memories for years to come. Is the hotel haunted? Can't say for sure. If it is the hotel management down plays that and focuses more on the history and the architecture of the building. The only weird thing I notice is that every time I walked into our room, and I mean every time, I got a whiff of the cigar smoke nobody else smelled it just me. The logical explanation is that there was an inconsiderate cigar smoker smoking inside the hotel room. But the smell was only as you come into the room right at the door and nowhere else kind of weird. Everything along the strip is priced here towards tourists. If you get off the strip you'll find a regular small town with deals to be had. There are fast food restaurants drive-thrus and even Walmart that is about two miles away. I recommend you eat at the diamond Belle Restaurant there in the hotel. Don't show up for early dinner service you'll have to wait to get a seat show up 7 or later and you shouldn't have a problem. The Waitresses are dressed in 1880s style show girl outfits with fishnet stockings corsets and garters. I would go back in a heartbeat if our summer our vacation plans to take us back to Southwest Colorado the Strater Hotel would be our...

Last week i had 2 nights booked at The Strater. I ended up checking out after one night. I HIGHLY recommend that no one stay here.

I just cannot stand being lied to especially by someone I am paying for a service. When we checked in, I went to the room and it was hotter than I like. The AC was set on 68 but the room was 74 and there was no cool air flowing out of the vent. So I went to the desk and asked if the AC was broken. I received at best a confusing answer. I told them I am not mad, I just need to know if it’s broken so I don’t unpack and can either get another room or go stay somewhere else. The lady and gentleman at the desk assured me it wasn’t broken, but it was just turned on and it takes a while to cool. I asked one more time in very plain English. Is the AC broken or is it going to cool down. I was assured it would cool down.

No problem, I went for a drink and snack and went back after around 90 minutes and the temp was 73 so I thought ok, maybe they are telling the truth. We went out for a bit and had dinner down the street and when I went back to the room it was 74 again. So I go back out and now the same 2 people tell me well it’s an old hotel and the air doesn’t work well we will give you a fan. By now it’s 6:15 and I told them I will give it to 10p and if it’s not working I am going to find another place and I expect no problem from the hotel in refunding my money. They said we will see what we can do and I said honestly I don’t care what you do, I will just dispute w Chase.

10p comes and by now my 8 year old Granddaughter is asleep and its 74 and I miserably toss and turn with almost no sleep all night. I make a reservation at a nearby Homewood then pack the room and check out. I see a woman in an office who looks general managerial and I speak to her.

She now tells me the AC has been broken for 2 days and I almost lose my mind. These people just lied to my faces at least 4 times. That is inexcusable in my book. The GM agreed w me and removed the 2nd night’s charge since i was leaving. A broken AC happens, no big deal. I would have just stayed elsewhere if they told me the truth. Instead they lied to my face on multiple occasions and that is just unacceptable.

Ymmv but I would not ever...
