If you train in the mornings, you're likely to be greeted by Aneka. She is highly professional, helpful, caring (of others and the gym conditions), honest, responsible, and she has a calm demeanor (you can feel her positive energy). She gave me a tour of the gym and assisted me in obtaining a membership for both my daughter and I. Pricing is reasonable for two ($98) per month (1 year contract) as the gym has tons to offer, virtually and on-site! I’m also given access to several other (7 total) local gyms.
The interior? Remarkable! The facility has ample space, is spotless, well-equipped, furnished (comfortable couches in the restrooms and main lobby), and the walls are neatly designed with complementary colors and motivating quotes. The gym offers an abundance of modern exercise machines for both cardio and resistance training, aerobics rooms, turf areas (inside and out), a variety of weigh-sets and kettlebells, monkey bars, rogue foam ploy boxes, yoga mats, foam rollers, resistance bands (all sizes), designated stretching area, weighted/medicine balls, 4-digit combination (convenient) lockers integrated with USB ports- which are located inside and out of the large-sized (luxurious) restrooms, a sauna, a steam room, free-wifi, hydromassage chairs, weekly studio classes, personal training and also child care! They provide their members with shampoo and conditioner (and towels during a regular season). There are also tv screens throughout the gym- truly entertaining! MTV’s ridiculousness!
I haven’t had much trouble exploiting equipment due to availability. It doesn’t generally become crowded in the early mornings (5-9 am). I’ve also attended the gym during the weekends during opening hours, and again, no trouble employing equipment. This gym is highly diversified. You’ll meet friendly individuals of various backgrounds/nationalities, ages and experience (no judgement).
Everyone must have a mask on the moment they enter the gym. Furthermore, after barcoding in, members are required to take with them a spray bottle (sanitizer) and wipe down used equipment. The staff is truly dedicated to ensuring all members in the facility follow the set-rules; they regularly do face-mask checks (as in, they walk around the gym every few minutes ensuing members’ faces are properly covered).
I did have a bad experience with Muhammad Mustafa (who goes by Moe, I was told). He’s a trainer. I would describe him as inconsiderate, impatient, self-centered and unappreciative. There was an incident in which I was training my 13 year old daughter. I initially began having Naty perform Bulgarian split squats on a bench press due to a lack of availability of a more appropriate bench. However, Moe (followed by his client) rudely interrupted us both towards the end of her session. “Can I get you to move? You can use a foam box for this purpose.” I replied, “She’s almost done. She has one last set. [Can you wait a sec.]?” However, Moe insisted on getting us to move that instant. “Oh, sure!” (Sarcastically, then directed his attention to Naty) “That’s right! Go low! Keep an up-right posture during each rep! There you go…” He took the role of trainer, interfering with our bonding activity. He made us both feel uncomfortable and made her feel pressured to complete her remaining set! I was surprise at this man’s lack of consideration and was simultaneously disgusted. His client later apologized on Moe’s behalf. “I’m so sorry he interrupted your session. I didn’t know he was going to do that…” From that moment forward until I left the gym, Moe stuck out like a sore thumb amongst the other trainers. I noticed how he carelessly tossed around weights and barbells so that they landed in front of his clients. Is it that he lacks the tranquility that enables a person to transfer items with more etiquette? I don’t recommend this trainer. I’ve had brief interactions with Margaret (she motivates Robin every morning), Malik (who took the time to find me a suitable resistance band) and Cayla (who kindly retrieved for me a weigh ball). I...
Read moreI just canceled my o2 fitness membership after 8+ years due to dissatisfaction with this club location for many reasons, which include:
Crowding and limited equipment: The gym is overly crowded, and regardless of when I go, I find myself waiting to use the already limited equipment. There is not enough of the more popular equipment (racks, cables, free weight benches), and folks have to congregate around them to wait their turn. The gym layout is inefficient in that all of those popular items are shoved into the same area.
Upkeep: Many pieces of equipment are out of order at any given time and are not repaired for a while (the treadmills upstairs have been out of commission for over a month). The locker rooms and bathrooms are absolutely disgusting. Cleaning staff seems to do more spraying of deodorizer than actual cleaning (often within close range of where patrons will breathe it in). Lockers are often broken and unable to be secured.
Gym Etiquette: There is a general lack of courtesy for other gym-goers. Folks are able to set up tripods wherever they please on the gym floor/in the way of equipment to record themselves (and others around them) or to watch shows/videos on their devices while occupying equipment. There is no clear policy against recording in the locker room and this is unacceptable in a space where other patrons should have privacy to change.
I worked out at O2 Falconbridge and O2 Elliott for several years before their closure. While those locations weren’t brand new or sparkling clean, I was always able to get in and get my workout done in a reasonable amount of time, without the above obstacles.
Based on other reviews expressing similar feedback, I don't get the sense that the club genuinely takes patron feedback seriously as no visible changes have been made. In fact, the request form to cancel my membership due to club dissatisfaction was responded to with an email that wished me well, with no request for feedback on how to improve.
In summary: working out here feels like working out in a frat house basement. I would not recommend this location, and would encourage anyone considering a membership here to consider another O2 club location or to consider a different...
Read moreFor paying nearly a 100 a month having to wait for a treadmill because there limited and some are consistently down for repair is crazy work.
To pay that price for a gym and you can't workout when you want to makes no sense. Limited hours through the work week. Even less hours on the weekend. The hours suck for paying almost 100. Should definitely be 24 hours
The selling point of the amenities for why the price is what it is, YOU STILL HAVE TO PAY FOR!! So why is the price that high then. Because your offered 2 or so free trials then you have to pay additional cost to the already high membership
There are only 4 benches in the gym. 3 which you can make incline at different angles.
I'm confused as to why the price is what it is. It doesn't come with a trainer(you have to pay additional). It doesn't come with nutritional guidance( I think is a free 15 minute consultation then you have to pay additional). The group fitness classes are additional payments. You get 1 or 2 free stretches from their chiropractor/massuse I believe then maybe if your insurance can accept them it's free possibly.
The paintings on the walls are cool. Some of the equipment is decent. The area in Durham it's in been under reconstruction for a while and being gentrified so that is why the price is what it is. Definitely not worth if your work schedule switches alot between hours. Limited equipment so your routine that may be 45 min to a hour may be longer or you want finish completely if your pressed on time. People will stay on a machine for a 1 hour knowing it's only 1-2 in there and you'd be in there and a machine will be broke for over a week.
The hours are about the same as fitness connection but the price is 10x there's and the amenities that you pay extra for are the same accept you can play basketball at fitness connection free.
If this gym had 24 hours maybe you'd be ok with price because waking up to hit fasted cardio at 2am before work is clutch. Sometimes there not even open at the time the door stamps
DO BETTER. BUT I DOUBT ANYTHING WILL CHANGE SO THIS WILL BE...
