TL,DR: The university has abandoned the Spartan spirit symbolized by Magic Johnson’s statue—his unwavering determination and Spartan mindset.
There are serious issues of corruption and neglect on campus. Local police have reportedly accepted bribes in exchange for illegal parking privileges and waived fines, allowing favored businesses to profit off tribal lands. While the university publicly acknowledges these lands, internal corruption within Infrastructure Planning and Facilities (IPF) and the University President’s management has led to delays in essential maintenance. This has resulted in significant environmental damage to the Grand River and surrounding grow zones—damage that could have been prevented with proactive care.
IPF allowed years' worth of erosion to occur in a single year due to sustained neglect, which has taken a physical and emotional toll. I personally faced employment discrimination from IPF after reporting these issues and contacting the Michigan State Police regarding the misuse of tuition funds and threats to public safety.
Substantiation: The university has retaliated against me for whistleblowing—altering policies shortly after I came forward, violating the core values of Spartan integrity. They delayed my graduation by denying me equal access to classes and refused to accommodate my grief when I asked for time to be with my dying father.
At my graduation, I was effectively erased: cameras actively avoided me, and I was denied visibility on the Jumbotron due to my protected First Amendment speech. The very deans who facilitated this retaliation had the audacity to attend the ceremony, all while denying me equal access and support from the Office of Institutional...

Magic Johnson was one of MSUs famous basketball players winning a national championship with MSU and then moving on to the NBA with the LA Lakers and winning a championship with them as well. The sculpted figure of Magic Johnson at Michigan State University is captured in a charging position with his fingers guiding his teammates. He assumes his unique ‘no look pass’ stance that successfully misleads his opponents about the direction of his next pass. The final effect on the patina of Magic’s jersey suggests the color of the Spartans’ uniforms while retaining a traditional rich bronze finish. Four abstract objects jut out of the base to commemorate four of...
Read moreEvery time I go to Breslin Center Google wants me to rate the Magic Johnson statue. I have only once even noticed the Magic Johnson statue and that was the day I went there for the Izzo 5K race, where we gathered by the statue. Literally every other time I'm just going there for some event. I don't have an opinion about the Statue and I certainly never visited it per se. I'm sure it's a very fine statue, but I'm not the...
