Small, lovingly restored, quaint little theater on the main street of a cute little eastern shore town, what more could you want? We attended last night for our second time, and we will definitely be back. Easy street parking all over town or lots for very nominal fee. The staff are all incredibly friendly and helpful - even the CEO of the foundation is greeting people as they enter and exit, both times we attended. The theater itself has been restored recently and the lobby is gorgeous, the bathrooms are large/ modern/ clean, and the sight lines in the theater are all good. Online ticket purchase was easy, and the price was great for the up close access you get with some really big names. It is a little curious the doors only open 30 minutes prior to showtime, but the town and venue are so small, perhaps there is no need for more (although one would think a hopping bar with drink specials could be good for the funding). The only small complaint I would raise has nothing to do with the theater, but the town is so cute and quiet that there were not a lot of eating options on a Monday evening and all the town shops appear to close by 5PM (I do wonder if 7PM rather than 8PM showtimes would be more convenient.....but perhaps too early for people to escape work and arrive if coming over the Bridge). That said, we had a wonderful nice meal next door at Bannings Tavern ($15 pub food entrees/ $25 dinner entrees) and then walked down to Storm and Daughters Ice Cream on the other side of the theater for an endless selection (seriously probably 50+ options) of hand scooped (Hershey's Premium) ice creams with homemade waffle cones. Can't beat all that for a wonderful...
Read moreI've gotta say, this venue had a pretty good cast for regional musical theater production. Being a former professional musician, I was slightly disappointed that the 2018 winter production of "Annie" didn't have a PIT orchestra but with the prerecorded music, it did go much more smoothly. The theater is undergoing some much needed renovations as the ceiling up in the rear balcony section is missing tiles and there is clutter on the balcony wings. The seats (at least in the upper balcony) were REALLY tight and uncomfortable for anyone my height, 6' or taller. I can imagine they'd be even tighter for someone whom was overweight. Maybe renovate the seating while you're at it? The bathrooms were easily accessible and the temperature control was just okay. I was wearing a long-sleeve shirt and even up in the balcony where I thought it would be warm, I was not. Parking wasn't so bad as there is plenty of street parking opening up from time to time as well as parking in rear of the lots behind the theater. Overall, I'd come again. It was a fun experience and for once in my life, I wasn't playing in the PIT for a regional theater...
Read moreWe saw Seldom Scene here in what can be described as a cozy venue. Currently under renovations, this small theater served as a suitable stage for the storied Bluegrass band. Crowd was tame but the music was raucous. Acoustics more than acceptable in the small room that is the Avalon. If someone you believe you would enjoy seeing is playing here, don't miss...
