Twenty one other members of my seniors club and myself cuz it's real to Edenton North Carolina where we started our discoveries oh this is dork town at the Penelope Barker House which is an absolutely wonderful step back into history as well a beautiful site into today's reality. First there are so many items about the town's history placed in such a perfect way on the antique tables including items that you can pick up and read as you sit in any number of chairs or couches available. Or if it strikes your fancy you can go out on the second floor porch and sit in a rocker and look out over Edenton Bay. When I was there it was a beautiful March day and the waters were calm and the view incredible. There are staff there to answer all of your questions about Eatonton and the numerous historic sites in the lovely town. The Penelope Barker House is the Welcome Center and starting point for the Trolley Tour through this small town. It's a little over an hour long and the lovely ride includes a great deal of information about times past as you view the various buildings, lighthouse, homes, library, businesses and other interesting places. I highly recommend a visit to the small but historic town of Edenton North Carolina and a starting point of the Penelope Barker House. Be sure not to miss the...

My family is born and raised here in Edenton. I was also born here in Edenton and I love it's history. I'm Edenton's first professional basketball player having competed in Lithuania Europe in the early 00's via Rockingham Community College after playing high school basketball in Durham NC. For me visiting home and it's historic preservations such as the Barker House puts things in place for me. I love history and Edenton is a cornerstone in NC History and I am proud to be from Edenton. The Barker House and it's family history is amazing to say the least and definitely a must see if you visit our town. I've visited the Barker House a couple of times and each time I was blowed away. Great place to visit and take in...

I enjoyed happening along this place. We stopped in Edenton to see the historic waterfront and found this treasure.

I had no idea who Penelope Barker was. I had never heard about her tea party resolution. I found the museum very informative. It was neat how you can see the inside of the walls. (the ceiling is sagging in there because of the missing wall pieces).

There are period correct dresses and slippers worn by the people that lived in this home. There are lots of local books for sale. A neat one that caught my eye was a book about all of the historical houses in Edenton, and their individual history.

The museum is free to visit.

We will definitely be back to explore...

Edenton has a beautiful downtown. The Penelope Barker house is restored really nice. My husband enjoyed seeing the inside of the walls on display in the portrait room. It's also cool to see the art technique differences through the years all in one room...and explained wonderfully. There is a tour in a trolley or by boat. I wish we had taken the tour. Almost every home downtown seemed to be built pre-1776.

Welcome center indeed! 😍 Our family of seven felt so warmly welcomed here and we enjoyed learning about the history of the home before taking a self-guided tour through the downstairs and upstairs rooms. Great view of the water from the second story balcony! In the gift shop, be sure to purchase the walking tour guide of Edenton (green cover) and you'll learn so much as you walk through town.
