My wife and I enjoyed The Cotton Gin Inn (TCGI), which we now consider “5 Star” (equates to 3 Michelin stars). Michelin requires good art on the walls and this place has both tasteful art and very nice furnishings. The property is within easy reach of historic Edenton. TCGI is a large brick mansion on six acres, which also includes the historic cotton gin building and plenty of space for weddings and events. We stayed in the Veranda Room—large, beautifully restored. The king bed has high thread count sheets and pillow cases. The very modern private bath now occupies what was the butler’s pantry. The towels were as thick as I have ever encountered. When we arrived, I asked what time would breakfast be served. Cheryl’s response was “What time do you want breakfast?” This was our first indication of first class service. As a former business traveler, breakfast timing is a deciding factor in the selection of a bed and breakfast. Breakfast was on white linen with fresh flowers on the table (see photo). During the short wait, I tried fresh bread—almost cake with ginger flavor—really good. The start was a dish of two yogurts, chopped walnuts, sliced almonds, granola, raspberries and blackberries—plus fresh squeezed orange juice. The main dish was a gourmet omelet, featuring gruyere cheese and spinach, topped with grilled asparagus. The pan roasted potatoes were accompanied by oven-toasted, buttered brioche. My wife enjoyed her fine English tea and I had decaf coffee (from a local roasting firm), prepared with French press. Outstanding!!!
Did I mention that Cheryl is an accomplished chef and conducts cooking classes? We look forward to her forth-coming cookbook (to be published late 2018).
If you are planning a visit to Edenton, you should definitely consider The...
Read moreWe stayed here 7/1-7/3/2021, out first time here and if Cheryl and Randy will have us we would love to stay again. We had the smallest room and we had plenty of space. It was on the 3rd floor so plan accordingly. The stairs are easily navigated if you are in ok shape, we walk several miles everyday but are not athletes. The Inn is beautiful and well taken care of. A nice wrap around porch is a great place to spend the afternoon and evening. The grounds are a nice place to hang out as well. Parking is easy. Its a 1.2 mile(3.5km) walk from the Inn to the center of town along a very safe sidewalk, some of it along streets with some very nice houses. The waterfront area, shops, and restaurants are filled with some friendly folks and good food. But its not as good as the food at the Inn. This was an outstanding breakfast experience. They have put together some delicious dishes. Peach French toast and pop-overs ? (take my word for it they're good) There is always water readily available as well as welcoming snacks in the afternoon. The owners live on property, in an area off side of main house, and are very friendly and make you feel at home. Its easy to get comfortable here. We talked with several of the other guests and found them all very nice people easy to talk with. We highly recommend anyone coming to the area check out the website and give Cotton Gin Inn (CGI) a try. Thank you...
Read moreMy husband and I walked the shops today. We have been wanting to take a look inside the Cotton Gin for awhile but we were never downtown when it was opened. I found the store to be adorable, smelled good from the brunch and was excited to see focaccia bread mix for purchase. As I waited in line, the cashier wrapped up the customer ahead of me. There was another person assisting another customer but I had been waiting to make my purchase. The cashier overlooked me, never acknowledged I was there and asked the other customer was she ready to cash out. The other customer said the other associate was helping her and I went to step forward to the register when the cashier reached for the items for the other customer to begin ringing her up. I was appalled. Was it something wrong with me? Why would you completely overlook me? I know the answer and not surprised it occurred in the Cotton Gin. Instead of wanting to be open minded and allow a new customer to purchase something you saw a white woman with a black man and ignored me. Thanks but no thanks. I kindly placed my item back on the shelf and walked out. Maybe you are the owner and don’t care. But I know this is 2023 and the time to be ignorant is over. My money is better off supporting someone who can see...
