The NOW Massage South Bay — Attraction in El Segundo

This review isn’t about my therapist who was fantastic, but rather the business itself, and front desk staff.

Pros: My therapist was kind, respectful and skillful. Also very strong which I appreciate because I typically get deep tissue massages. I felt better after my session with her.

Cons: The timing and price, and attitude of one of the front desk staff.

This was a 50 minute massage, with a deep tissue add on. I went because my friend gave me a gift card. Now the 50 min for non-members is 135, but if you want deep tissue, you must pay a $15 add on, which is, of course, ridiculous. All told this session was $150 plus $30 tip totaling a whopping $180.

Now. My session was at 11am, I pre-filled out my paperwork and arrived five minutes early. The therapist came to take me to the room, we spoke briefly and started the session at about 11:10 or so. We wrapped up at 11:53. I know this because there is a very prevalent digital clock in the room and I took note of how they would use their time. So about a 40 plus minute massage. For 180 bucks. Lucky for me, the therapist used her time really well but a few more minutes wouldn’t have hurt. (And of course I wasn’t footing the bill but I would have been pissed if I had been.)

Cons: The younger woman at the front desk initially was very sweet until I told her I couldn’t find my gift card, but I had inputted the number when I booked the massage online and it seemed to have gone through. She then turned cold and rude, though she did look up the person who gave me the gift card and we covered it that way. After searching for it in the massage room and restroom I finally found it in my purse. But I didn’t appreciate being treated suspiciously or like a nuisance. That’s not such a nice thing to experience after a restful session.

The place is clearly very corporate, with what appeared to be 10+ rooms cordoned off by drapes, dimly lit with oceanic sounds playing throughout the area. Relaxing enough. Platitudes about the courage to be yourself while nickel and diming clients for each and every little thing like hot stones and deep tissue options. This place could be loads better if it prioritized clients (and I’d say therapists- my bet is they make them work very hard for every scrap) - over making as much money as possible. I had THE BEST experience at The NOW Massage in El Segundo, and I cannot recommend it highly enough. From the moment I stepped in, I was impressed by the cleanliness of the place. The ambiance was calming, setting the perfect tone for relaxation.

I'm extremely particular about my massages, and I can confidently say that my session with Karin was a perfect 10/10. Her touch was expertly firm yet soothing, tailored precisely to my preferences. I found myself drifting into a state of deep relaxation, so much so that I actually fell asleep during the massage—a testament to how effective and tranquil the experience was.

Lisa, the manager, provided exceptional customer service. She was extremely helpful and took the time to understand my needs, recommending Karin based on her expertise and my preferences. It turned out to be a perfect match! The staff at The NOW were exceptionally warm and welcoming. I was experiencing what they call "massage drunk" because I was extremely relaxed and felt amazing. The staff made me feel completely at ease from start to finish.

The quality of the oils used added another layer of luxury to the session. They smelled divine and enhanced the overall sensory experience.

The benefits lasted well beyond the massage itself. In past experiences, I've woken up sore and in pain from a firm massage, but from this experience, I woke up the next day feeling incredibly rejuvenated. If you're looking for a place that offers not just a massage, but a true retreat from the everyday hustle, The NOW in El Segundo is the place to go. I'm already planning to bring friends and family here to experience the same...

I only have positive things to say about The NOW Massage South Bay! The staff is so friendly and inviting and the owner, Lisa, is unbelievably kind!! You can tell that she pours her heart and soul into this business and she's done an incredible job finding the best therapists out there.

Every massage that I've had here has been amazing and the herbal heat therapy enhancement is like a dream!! The boutique has a beautiful and calming boho vibe that feels like vacation and the waves in the background make it an extra special experience.

When I'm here I feel very well taken care of and never want to leave!! Everyone is super sweet and genuinely cares to give me the best possible experience every time I walk through the door. They also keep the place looking clean and gorgeous at all times - including the bathroom!

As a South Bay local, I'm beyond excited to have something like this so close to home. I definitely want to become a member so that I can enjoy it on a regular basis. If I could give it more than 5 stars I would - I highly recommend...
