My wife and I have been loyal Home Depot customers for everything. We recently bought a new GE fridge, added all the necessary warranty protection and had it delivered about 4 months ago. Last week our nearly $4K fridge caught on fire, with smoke pouring out of the door when opened. Smelled like melted plastic and wires, ruining all of our groceries. My wife immediately called Home Depot in Elk River who scolded her, saying that there are no returns on appliances. We didn't ask to return it, we asked for a new fridge because we bought it from Home Depot. The Appliance Manager said that is not going to happen and was quite rude, arguing with another Home Depot sales associate and my wife on how to handle this situation. The entire encounter left my wife in tears. The only solution given was that Home Depot scheduled Omega Appliance Repair who was very prompt and professional and their technician came out the following morning and deemed it unrepairable as it caught on fire and an odor of melted plastic was all throughout. Friday afternoon I contacted the Elk River Manager on duty at Elk River, I think her name was Becky. She was immediately rude and acted as if I was bothering her by calling, even though I hadn't yet told her the reason why I was calling. I was taken back by this attitude, every reason why we buy from Home Depot was exposed as a lie when it comes time to put their reputation to work in order to provide solutions. Becky had to call me back to gain additional information and talk with her associates. When she did call, her solution was to sell me another fridge for a discount that they had on the floor. Definitely not something a customer wants to hear after already investing nearly $4K. I simply asked that they order a replacement fridge, as the unit they had sold, delivered and installed had caught on fire. The manager said that they cannot do that, it's against policy. I think the manager realized how ridiculous and unprofessional they had been so she now offered to write it off and just give me another fridge, a small dorm style unit for a family of 4. I let her know that thank you but I only want the unit we already paid for and that I currently have no room for another fridge. She sharply responded saying "well, that's the best I can do for you". Being this was now Friday late afternoon, I requested that Becky contact her supervisor and reach out the following week with a solution. Nobody from Home Depot has called, over a week has passed by. We had to wait for a second technician from A&E who deemed it destroyed as well. Because that's Home Depot's customer focused policy. They gave us a case number and left. I truly regret purchasing from Home Depot, I hope they look at how they handle situations of their products catching on fire and properly address it instead of wasting what will turn into weeks of my time and who knows...
Read moreA Standing Ovation for the Home Depot Kids Workshop!
Forget Saturday morning cartoons! The real entertainment happens the first Saturday of every month at the Home Depot Kids Workshop. Calling it a "workshop" feels like an understatement; it's more like a magical portal where tiny humans transform into miniature master builders, their eyes gleaming brighter than a freshly hammered nail.
From the moment they don their adorable little orange aprons (which, let's be honest, are a major fashion statement in the preschool set), the excitement is palpable. My little one practically vibrated with anticipation. And the projects! Oh, the projects! We've crafted everything from adorable birdhouses that now proudly grace our backyard to mini race cars that have dominated living room speed trials. These aren't flimsy crafts destined for the trash bin; these are real projects made with actual wood, nails, and a whole lot of kid-powered enthusiasm.
The best part? It's not just about the hammering and gluing (though that's undeniably a blast). The patient and friendly Home Depot staff are fantastic at explaining the steps, teaching basic tool safety in an engaging way, and fostering a sense of accomplishment. They empower the kids to actually build something with their own two hands. Witnessing that pride on their faces when they finish their project? Priceless. Absolutely priceless.
And let's not forget the coveted pin they receive after completing their masterpiece! My child's apron is now a badge of honor, each pin a tiny trophy representing a morning of creativity and skill-building. There's even a special pin for reaching ten workshops – a testament to the addictive fun of this program!
Parents, if you're looking for a free, engaging, and genuinely enriching activity for your kids (ages typically 3-10, but younger ones can often participate with help), look no further. The Home Depot Kids Workshop is a home run. It's a fantastic way to spend quality time together, encourage creativity, teach basic skills, and create lasting memories (and some pretty cool little projects to boot!). Five glowing stars! We'll be there next month, ready to build...
Read moreHome depots online inventory for the store always seem to be exact, if you do decide to purchase online or in the app they don't charge you and its quick and easy pickup and if you want it to be shipped to your front door its usually free shipping (unless its really heavy or large but within common sense weight and size) Unlike other home improvement stores in the area that try and bribe you with a rebate that you will forget to send in and then spend more than you would at Home Depot (when that place posts their prices that might be .02 less than HD the 11% is already added in, so don't forget to send that in so you can wait months for your in-store only check) Also the other company charge fees for instore pickup and shipping (unless it's an item stored outside, then you don't get the fee but in the winter you still get to enjoy the cold whike sorting through their crooked lumber) Hopefully they have it in stock, if it says they have 3 or less of an item you might be wasting your time going their because good chance their online numbers are wrong or it's just something the lazy employees say so they don't have to go find an item. All around Home Depot is a better option with better quality items. Home Depot also must be best friends with Milwaukee because they always have the best prices for Milwaukee equipment and if at the time you look and the prices are the same as some others, give it a week or two and it will be on sale for significantly cheaper or with...
