Filled out an application for an adult male small dog who has been posted for sometime. We have one other female medium dog who recently lost her brother and saw a lot of similarities to the one needing adoption. After hearing about his compatible personality, receiving a 30 minute phone interview and verifying everything that would make us great adopters-house with fenced in yard, someone almost always home, indoor access full time, lots of experience with rescues and older dogs, lots of time to dedicate to the transition and standard of keeping money saved for vet visits and emergencies, the interviewer told us we would not be a good fit for the particular dog bc he showed "resource guarding" and should be only dog in home. Uh, many dogs demonstrate that and its nothing we havent dealt with before and couldn't work with. Instead he offered a dog that would be a better fit, it was also a small adult male which we agreed would be a good fit with our gal so we said okay and asked when we can set up a visit. But instead he ended the call saying he would put a note in to the "counselors to review the match" which would "put us in the queue" and may or may not reach out.(weren't you the counselor who did the review?).. Still havent heard anything weeks later and meanwhile both dogs are still sitting in kennels waiting for adoption. I understand this place is a nonprofit but it seems they are stringing things along for the money not for the actual placement of homeless animals. Will be going back to the rescue group we adopted our gal from who had a great screening process, followed up with a home check after two weeks and before the adoption was finalized, and is truly focused on...
Read moreAfter a long decision making process, I decided to adopt a kitten. After looking for several hours today, And being told there's nobody there until tomorrow to assist me or fill out an application and leave it in the Box I called Rancho coastal humane society to inquire about their selection of kittens, I was informed.they had many kittens and the adoption process stopped at 4:30. On arrival I was then told I had to go through the front desk to see them up close. Immediately I saw one I was interested in . I asked the 2 girls seemingly with time to assist , at the front desk about the adoption process .I then inquired if the kitten I was waiting to see had been adopted because I believed it was marked she was adopted. They said NO several times . Yet neither of the 2 went to look .Lillie my interviewer seemed to be more focused on closing in 15 minutes ,than respecting that I had waited an hour for her assistance in adopting a kitten.
Moral of the story: What is the primary goal ? We have multiple pet adoption centers out there . We donate food, we donate money , Donate our time All with the expectation that people are out there finding loving homes for these pets. It has been made to be such a challenging process. I understand that an interview process is necessary to some degree . Ideally , Would an extra 5 minutes not be worth Knowing you've placed one more animal in a caring home.
At the end of the day for me the search continues, For the kittens they have another night in a cage hoping that someone will want them in...
Read moreUpon our first visit, all was well. Staff was friendly and volunteers were very helpful. My husband and I have put a lot of thought into adopting a puppy. I was not working so I was committed to being the primary provider for our future puppy. On our first visit we filled out an application to become puppy pre-certified and spoke with an amazing adoption counselor. Due to the many others also looking to adopt puppies, we weren’t able to adopt on our first visit. Nor our second or third. But we didn’t give up. We continued to visit Rancho Costal looking for a puppy and with every visit, staff seemed more and more annoyed with us. Specifically the lady at the front desk. My husband and I looked past this as we were determined to find a perfect match. We continued to visit regularly for three months. On our last visit, we were being helped by a very friendly volunteer when the lady at the front desk intervened. She snatched our application out of the volunteers hands and proceeded by telling us that we weren’t puppy pre-certified and we needed to talk to an adoption counselor. I briefly tried to explain that we’ve been puppy pre-certified but she didn’t care. She made the volunteer call an adoption counselor to come and see us. We went along with it and at the end of the visit, we were basically told we couldn’t adopt young puppies here even though we had been 2nd in line to adopt young puppies here before. My husband and I had never felt so rushed out of there before until this day. We will continue to search for our furry friend, just not at...
