Poke Chop — Restaurant in Encinitas

Had to run to the fedex office/kinkos to drop off my work computer as it was time for recycling. Right before leaving I had picked up my daughter from her after school activity. With nothing prepared for her snack and minimal prep done for dinner, saw the sign for happy hour at Poke Chop. My daughter loves chicken and pork katsu, so she was sold. Picked up their two specials, the chicken katsu and house poke bowl. They gave 2 layers of chicken katsu in the bowl. It came with rice and a side salad as well. My daughter ate half for her dinner on the way home. She left the other half for her dad's dinner. The house poke bowl was really filling. It included your choice of rice (brown or white) or salad , your choice of salad (cucumber, seeweed, etc), 2 scoops of marinated tuna, and a topping (onions, cilantro, crispy oniins, etc.). Like my daughter I left the other half for my husband. If he was with us, he woukd be happy with the beer happy hour special. Service was fast and everyone was really friendly. I've been to a few poké places in San Diego (Kearny Mesa to be exact), but it never occurred to me to leave a review because no review is better than a bad one, I think. But Poké Chop was so great that I couldn't help but leave a 5 star review!! 1st of all, the parking spot isn't an issue unlike stores on Coast Hwy 101. The food is most definitely amazing! I LOVE that they have plenty to choose from for your proteins, sides, garnish, and dressing!!!! I usually pick the same thing because there aren't many choices to begin with, but I couldn't make my mind today, seriously! I might of just had the best poke bowl of my life. It's hard to be sure but my wife and I both are trying to remember when we had a better bowl and for the life of us we can not think of a better one. Plus the portion size is really big, my wife and I could have easily shared one. Super fresh and very clean tasting. None of the ingredients where particularly specific to the restaurant, just prepared perfectly. Really enjoyed the jalapeno wasabi sauce in combo with tuna and seaweed salad. Really appreciate the attention they gave to the rice as well. Most places don't take the time to really season the rice perfectly, poke chop does take that time and it really shows.
