Ever since Meijer has opened in Escanaba, MI, my girlfriend and I have brought most of our business there. Overall we’re satisfied with the store, but the electronics depart is the only issue. Not the selection of products, but the way it is managed and employed. On several occasions I have come there on a day that a certain product is to become available, only to be told that they don’t have it. The first time I assumed the employees were being honest with me and they just hadn’t received any stock of what I was looking for. But after more than a few times of the same thing happening, I grew suspicious. “Ponytail” as my girlfriend and I call him, flat out lied to me once. I went in there around 9am to purchase what I was looking for and he told me it wasn’t in stock and they wouldn’t have for a few more days. I went back there after work and asked a different employee to see if they had the product because it still wasn’t on the shelf and Ta-Da, they found it very quickly. Another example, I went there around 1am to purchase a video game because I’ve done this in the past with Wal-Mart and they’re always happy to find what I’m looking for. But in this instance at Meijer, a manager told me “We don’t sell new items after midnight, you’ll have to come back in the morning to purchase it.” That was after he himself searched for the product and couldn’t find it. So why did he bother looking for it when I wasn’t gonna be able to purchase it anyway? I went to Walmart that night and purchased what I was looking for in no time flat. Now today, I did the same thing, I went to Meijer first and they couldn’t find it so they made up an excuse about how they got an email saying that product would be arriving late and they didn’t know when it would arrive. I went to Walmart and in less than 5 minutes I had what I wanted. I wasted 40 minutes at Meijer waiting for them to ultimately give up and tell me to come back at a later time.
Sorry for the long story, but I wrote all that in hopes that someone in the management team over there will get on this department because it needs improvement in the people working back there. Kelsey is the only employee back there that has satisfied me as a customer, the rest have either been...
Read moreOn Monday of this week my daughter who turned 12 on Monday, and I went to the Meijer store in Escanaba, MI to purchase birthday decorations for a family birthday celebration. I picked out a large Happy Birthday balloon and wanted the balloon to be filled up. I approached a Meijer worker who I thought might be able to assist me. This lady attempt to blow up and assemble the ballon but quickly realized that she needed to get additional help. Another man came over to the floral department and attempted to help but wasn’t familiar with this particular ballon, he called for a team lead staff member for help. The team lead lady quickly came and with much effort and having to start all over with another ballon, she and the second Meijer worker were able to assemble the balloon. I was so happy that my daughter was able to have this oversized ballon for her party and the staff at Meijer I feel, went above and beyond to help me with the ballon. The Meijer staff could have told me that they don’t assemble balloons and I should get a hand held pump to blow up the balloon since it said on the package - that I didn’t notice until pointed out to me- The balloon could not be filled with helium. Thank you Meijer staff for your friendliness and willingness to help. I wish I could remember your names so that you could receive some recognition from Meijer management. Continue serving your community - this is a very get example of being the hands and...
Read moreMeijer is a well-stocked, well maintained super grocery store and the employees are always friendly and helpful. My one issue with almost all stores is the way they handle your products after they scan them. We have at least a 30 minute drive to Escanaba or Marinette/ Menominee so we like to put our meat, dairy and whatever else should be cool in our cooler bags that we present upon beginning the checkout process. I know that our checker today was brand new but he had no concept of items that we would like to have cool, or items that we don't want smashed or items that we were paying our money for that he didn't care about. He had assistance from another worker who was also kind to help us but she, too, just stuffed things in bags like she was throwing out the trash. I don't want heavy boxed and canned items on my fruit, veggies and bread. It was as if there was a fire in the store and they were trying to get me out of the flames. I know that most people want to get out as fast as possible but I would prefer that my groceries are handled properly and I am not left to feel that I was fleeing for my life. I'll pack my own groceries from now...
