Be careful in the handicapped rooms! We stayed in one on 12/5/21. We got a call 12/5/21 about our reservation around 4pm while we were on the job in Eureka because my credit card was not valid. (I had a fraudulent charge for a parking garage in San Diego and cancelled the card, forgetting I had booked the room with it.) So we stopped work, drove to the hotel and checked in using a debit card, which you cannot do over the phone, evidently. The staff person was very nice. We had reserved a handicapped room as those rooms are usually the only ones with shower grab bars. My husband walks with 2 canes and needs them. Very nice room, huge bathroom. They also have a laundry room, a real plus when the job you are working means your clothes suffer! The hotel supplied quarters for the machines. Everything worked well. My husband took a shower when I returned with the laundry, pretty late around 10:30 pm. When he got through with his shower, he opened his shower curtain and discovered he was surrounded by a lake. A very shallow lake, about 2”, but very significant when you move around with canes! The roll-in shower has a slope you “roll” up. It has a drain but the shower pan is remarkably flat, no slope to the drain. So yes, the water does flow down hill. The bathroom also has a drain but again, without a notable slope. I used our towels but the volume of water was too great. The front desk person was all alone, and asked what we wanted to do. So she brought us a large stack of towels. I moved the water, which kind of surrounded the toilet to the drain, and left the towel barricade in place so we could get to the toilet without wet feet during the night. In the morning I moved the barricade to just below the shower so I could shower. I was a little stunned when I brought up the adventure to the morning front desk person. Amazingly, she kind of shrugged, and said it sounded like housekeeping had put up the wrong shower curtain. I asked that she report it to whoever was in charge of the hotel. I doubt that she did due to her belief about the shower curtain. I mean, I know that a shower pan in a handicapped room can’t have a slope more than 1/4” per foot, but it is unconscionable not to have sufficient slope to put the volume of water from the shower into the drain.
