Be careful in the handicapped rooms! We stayed in one on 12/5/21. We got a call 12/5/21 about our reservation around 4pm while we were on the job in Eureka because my credit card was not valid. (I had a fraudulent charge for a parking garage in San Diego and cancelled the card, forgetting I had booked the room with it.) So we stopped work, drove to the hotel and checked in using a debit card, which you cannot do over the phone, evidently. The staff person was very nice. We had reserved a handicapped room as those rooms are usually the only ones with shower grab bars. My husband walks with 2 canes and needs them. Very nice room, huge bathroom. They also have a laundry room, a real plus when the job you are working means your clothes suffer! The hotel supplied quarters for the machines. Everything worked well. My husband took a shower when I returned with the laundry, pretty late around 10:30 pm. When he got through with his shower, he opened his shower curtain and discovered he was surrounded by a lake. A very shallow lake, about 2”, but very significant when you move around with canes! The roll-in shower has a slope you “roll” up. It has a drain but the shower pan is remarkably flat, no slope to the drain. So yes, the water does flow down hill. The bathroom also has a drain but again, without a notable slope. I used our towels but the volume of water was too great. The front desk person was all alone, and asked what we wanted to do. So she brought us a large stack of towels. I moved the water, which kind of surrounded the toilet to the drain, and left the towel barricade in place so we could get to the toilet without wet feet during the night. In the morning I moved the barricade to just below the shower so I could shower. I was a little stunned when I brought up the adventure to the morning front desk person. Amazingly, she kind of shrugged, and said it sounded like housekeeping had put up the wrong shower curtain. I asked that she report it to whoever was in charge of the hotel. I doubt that she did due to her belief about the shower curtain. I mean, I know that a shower pan in a handicapped room can’t have a slope more than 1/4” per foot, but it is unconscionable not to have sufficient slope to put the volume of water from the shower...

Having worked here for 2 months, the front desk position is not hard besides knowing what you're doing and keeping things clean and organized. The biggest mistake was me doing more than the bare minimum. We get paid $16/hour and we're not allowed to sit during the entire 8 hour shifts. We have to sign away our break rights to even get employed.
I'm generally an organized and tidy person. I'd come into my shift with disorganized papers and way too many mistakes made by the previous shifts due to their lack of work ethics and the incompetency of the General Manager, Lee Spencer, who doesn't train the new hires to a industry set standard. As the front desk at a hotel, they are the first thing you see when guests walk in. Lee Spencer also will retaliate against employees that he doesn't like or actually stands up to his attitude/behavior by taking you off the schedule in a short notice.
The mannerisms and overall work ethic of the staff members is not up to par for customer service related work which was reported to the Manager, Nil Patel. Did they even talk to them, I wouldn't know but I never saw change. I've worked as a Supervisor for 4 years, have customer service experience for more than 6 years. You'd think they'd let the incompetent workers go but not someone with this much experience.
Their excuse was that they rather let someone who put more effort and provided better customer service go than lose out on people who weren't up to standards. This just shows how low their standards are and the lack of care they have for their guests. Our frequent staying guests like me and my display of service. This hotel severely lacks in everything for the amount of money you're paying for. Housekeepers are amazing and nice.
Not to even mention, the owner, Jay Patel, is an infuriating women who expects to be seen/known as the Boss even if you're a new hire. No introduction or greeting, like I don't even know who you are because I've never seen you before. They own the Comfort Inn and the new Home 2 Suites in Eureka as well, so people definitely know how terrible they are as a business owner.
Honestly, I'd rather just book an AirBnB instead of staying here. The IHG discounts vs non-member discount...
Read moreThe Fitness Gym was equipped with two Precor treadmills and one elliptical that are so old they are no longer on the Precor website. They don't Bluetooth; one has to have a male plug wire earpiece to listen to the TV. The TVS on the treadmills and Elliptical don't Close Caption. The treadmill next to the stationery Bike stopped moving faster than 1 mph early December. I stayed 58 nights. I reported this to management and one week later still not working but Manager Lee called me a liar saying it was fixed. I took him to the gym and proved it wasn't Then the second treadmill kept reading ERRORS but figured out one had to unplug it and let it reset each morning. I called customer care, they contacted the manager and still equipment not properly fixed or replaced. I was told I'm the only person to ever complain and that the machines are new. Would have moved to another hotel but found the local owner owns the Hilton Home 2, also. Lights in my room took 10 or more minutes to brighten. The ironing board cover had holes and red stains. Desk personnel assured me there wasn't a better one and that the hotel would not buy a new one. The daily breakfast for the first 30 days was two different kinds of sausages, scrambled eggs and 80% of the time very brown biscuits. After my call to customer care there was maybe 10 days of egg white frittatas. I did a review on the IHG site. A representative emailed me, apologized, and hoped I will continue my loyalty. I asked them for extra points, pointing out loyalty works both ways, and did not get a reply! If you have to stop there ask for Debbie to clean your room. She was a positive as were the power less...
