Thornton A. Sullivan Park exceeded all our expectations for a memorable family outing! From the moment we arrived, we were enchanted by the serene surroundings and the variety of activities available.
The park's playground was an absolute delight for our kids. The carefully designed play structures ensured that our children had a blast while remaining safe. They spent hours exploring the slides, climbing frames, and swings, all while we relaxed nearby under the comforting shade of the towering trees.
Speaking of shade, the park's abundant trees and well-placed seating areas provided the perfect backdrop for our family picnic. We were able to set up our spread on one of the inviting grassy areas and enjoy a delicious meal together. The peaceful ambiance, coupled with the gentle rustling of leaves, created an idyllic atmosphere that made our picnic truly special.
Thornton A. Sullivan Park's attention to detail didn't go unnoticed. The well-maintained pathways, clean restroom facilities, and ample trash bins made our visit hassle-free. It's evident that the park's staff takes great pride in keeping the grounds in impeccable condition.
One highlight that stood out was the picturesque pond. Its calm waters were home to ducks and other wildlife, providing a captivating scene that added to the park's charm. Taking a leisurely stroll around the pond was a delightful way to round off our visit.
Whether you're seeking a place to unwind, enjoy quality family time, or simply bask in nature's beauty, Thornton A. Sullivan Park is a hidden gem that ticks all the boxes. We left with hearts full of joy, cherished memories, and a promise to return soon. Kudos to the park management for maintaining such a wonderful haven for families and nature enthusiasts alike. Highly recommended!

Read moreThis is a wonderful free lakeside park. We go to swim, play in the large children's equipment area, and have picnics & bbq with large groups on the large open grass areas. During the summer the parking lot fills up quickly. Carpool or use other transportation means to enjoy this fantastic park.
There are showers to rinse off (open air showers. No nude showering. Safe for everyone). There is a drinking water fountain. Lifeguards are not always on duty. Budget issues affects the park facilities and extra services. Two individual family/handicapped/private restrooms for changing and using the facilities. The other restrooms are no frills and always wet. Bring, organic soaps for the shower, flip flops to protect your feet, water toys/personal floats (no large multi-person party float allowed in the designed swimming area), sandcastle buckets and shovels, ample sunscreen, plenty of towels, and a small first aid kit for the occasional cuts, scrapes and bug bites. A good selection of life vests for all ages. On busy days these are usually all in use. Many neglect to put them back when they leave. Roam the beach to find abandoned vests. Most summer days an ice cream truck arrives, and parks near the restrooms, to sell goodies and small toys.
Battery powered trolling motors are allowed for small water craft and boats. There is no boat ramp. All watercraft must be walked in.
Large trees provide ample shade away from the lake. In late afternoon the sandy beach becomes shaded as the sun tracks west.
All in all I've had great days taking my nieces to swim play, bought ice cream and chips from the ice cream van, had a bbq, picnicking new friend we met there, and even had pizza delivered when the girls were having too much fun to head home. Best of all it's completely free.Go check it out. Be prepared to stay longer because the kids are having too much fun with friends they just...
Read moreHandicap accessible in theory... Unfortunately, it appears that no one's taking care of this park as there are all kinds of debris on the walkways, making it hard to pass with a rolling device like a wheelchair or stroller. There's a big hill down to the water, which may be hard for some people to traverse. (The permanent bathroom is down there but maybe don't make the effort in winter months as it's locked up for much of the year.) The handicap accessible bathroom near the parking lot is a temporary Porta-Potty and it's filled to the gills -- is anyone maintaining it? The beach is hard packed with sand but not passible with a wheelchair or rollator. One of the buildings on site has tape around it like it's been the scene of a crime or needs serious repair. The mostly unpaved lot has several handicap spots but, again, it's a challenge to get out of the lot and through the park. Some nice covered/enclosed areas for group activities. Also saw a new children's play area, under construction as of winter 2023, but maybe open by summer? But expect to haul the kids a free hundred feet to get there (and again for bathrooms/changing areas). We brought a dog but he'll likely do better at another park (with better upkeep and more of a dog focus). Overall, this facility was disappointing -- mainly for lack of...
