My mom and I attended the 2:30 pm tour on Saturday, October 19th, which included the extended basement tour.||First, I want to say that our tour guide, Elaina, was absolutely fantastic! She was very entertaining and did an amazing job. We loved her so much! However, while we had an awesome guide, there were some other aspects of the experience that were disappointing.||Let me start with the other staff at the house. During the tour, Elaina was interrupted three separate times by other staff members asking when she’d be finished or needing to borrow her, which seemed very unprofessional. It felt like the staff had faced some earlier issues that day and unfairly put the burden on Elaina to fix everything. Despite the interruptions, Elaina remained professional and even agreed to take the next tour group to help out. Kudos to her for staying polite and professional, even as some of the staff continued to pressure her about when she’d be available for the next group (I would’ve been ready to throw hands at that point).||On top of that, we couldn’t move from the first room to the next because a different group was holding things up. So it wasn’t even Elaina’s fault that our tour was apparently running a little longer than expected. No one from the staff offered to assist or take over the next group for her (which, as far as I could tell, wasn’t even part of her original schedule). Instead, they kept pestering her in front of all of us, which felt so rude and awkward. Like did the other staff expect our tour to be cut short even though we paid for it? Even though they kept rushing her, Elaina politely reminded them that she is still currently guiding our group, and still took the time to guide us through the house and the basement (which some of us had paid extra as an add on to the tour). She was so awesome!||For the record, our tour only ran over by nine minutes, including the interruptions. There seemed to be a miscommunication between staff about how long the tour should be, with one place in our booking saying it was 90 minutes and another saying an hour. The staff told Elaina that it was 90 minutes, and she followed that timeline. Honestly, it was disappointing to see the staff treat her so rudely in front of a large group of guests.||Another issue I had with the staff (specifically, two older, grouchy women) was that one of them was literally cooking soup in the middle of our tour in the kitchen. The kitchen was already small and cramped, and now we had to squeeze in around her and her food prep area as well. She acted annoyed that we were there, even though we legit paid for this tour. It felt really unprofessional.||Cooking on a gas stove while guests are standing so close seems unsafe. My mom and I both have long hair, and we were standing right by the stove. What if the soup had spilled, or our hair got too close to the stove? Or what if there was a child in the group? I’m not usually overly concerned about safety, but this situation made me uncomfortable. It was also kind of gross to think about, standing so close to food someone else would be eating later. So, if you’re staying overnight at the Lizzie Borden house, don’t be surprised if you find a hair or something else unwanted in your soup 😉.||Lastly, our group size was WAY too big. We could barely fit in some of the rooms, and many times we had to stand in the hallway or spill over into another room, making it difficult to hear what Elaina was saying. Because of this, we couldn’t see some of the photos on display or really explore each room and all of the interesting things there were to look at. It was also uncomfortably hot in the house, and several guests were fanning themselves and complaining about the temperature. I can’t imagine how uncomfortable it must be during the summer! Lol. ||Overall, we had a fun and entertaining time thanks to our amazing guide Elaina, but the rest of the experience—between the unprofessional staff, the oversized group, safety concerns, and the temperature of the house—was disappointing. Sadly, I wouldn’t recommend this tour, which is a shame because we really enjoyed Elaina and the fascinating history of the Lizzie...

Read moreStayed here with my two family members with the intention of staying two nights. We booked a room and added a cot for our third person as it is advertised. Imagine my disappointment when I discovered that the cot was no more than what is essentially a chaise lounge made out of camping chair material. No mattress. I expected there to be at least an inch of cushion for the cot. Even a piece of cheap egg crate foam would be helpful. But there was nothing. Actually, they only provided a fitted sheet, no top sheet, no blankets or pillow so I had to request them. Not a big deal except the staff isn’t necessarily there to be at your beck and call, they are busy doing other things. So I ask for a pillow and blankets and they bring a pillow, no blankets. Asked for blankets again and they bring one. Ok. Whatever. I ended up stealing one from another room that ended up remaining vacant. Unfolded the hammock on sticks and it lasted about 5 minutes before I ended up making a pallet on the floor. $100 extra…to sleep on.the.floor. I ended up having to use the comforter for padding so my family in the bed only had the top sheet. There isn’t a lot of air flow upstairs and it got hot so we had to leave the window open and it was incredibly noisy. They also only gave us towels for two people and once we realized there was no staff left in the house to get more towels from. Some feedback: it would really be convenient to give guests access to things like extra pillows and blankets and towels on each floor since you explicitly confirm that all staff leaves at night. I don’t think you should be advertising those cots for anyone over the age of 10 as a typical adult cannot in any way get a comfortable nights sleep on fabric suspended by plastic poles. I also feel like the walls should be wiped down themselves as when we entered the shared bathroom there was pink sticky goop all over the wall and was easily wiped away when I cleaned it. There are also noticeable oil/makeup smudges on the slanted walls where people have obviously bumped their heads. For us to notice this right away is concerning given the staff must see this plainly every day. Some magic erasers would go long ways. The locks are also incredibly noisy which makes it hard to sleep. The third floor bathroom also has a broken faucet handle on the sink. About the booking process, your website say is you will receive an email before your stay with a code. From the time I booked the reservation to arrival, I think I received five different emails with two different codes total. I sent an email asking for clarification and they confirmed one code and then an hour later I get another email confirming the other code….frustrating especially since they outsource their customer service and the number I dialed went to a call center that only answered basic questions about the reservation itself. The tour was great and was honestly the highlight of being there, although it’s disappointing that you exploit the basement as an extra charge when it’s honestly nothing special and is more of a staff area. There was a younger staff member that interrupted our guide a couple times which was a bit much. The guide Karen was fabulous and thorough. Honestly, I think it’s kind of shameful that you don’t include the tour for your overnight guests. The home is amazing and an interesting piece of preserved history. Honestly, if you can do the tour you don’t NEED to stay overnight, but if that’s your thing I recommend only one night as no matter what it will not be a comfortable sleep and will wear you down for the rest of your weekend/trip. We honestly bailed after our first night and didn’t go back for the second-we opted to drive to Providence for a hotel. And by the vacant room next to us that first night, I don’t think we were the only ones. I stayed here once pre Covid when it had other owners and I’m sad to say that was a much better experience. Especially since they included the tour and breakfast in the stay. Seems now they are mainly focused on turning everything into...
