Went here for the first time a couple weeks ago for a girlfriend's 40th birthday party. She rented out the room up top and it was a great way to be able to converse, have a few drinks, and enjoy the company, as well as the Bon Jovi tribute band. The attentiveness of the dedicated waitress was great! Appetizers weren't bad.
Only one complaint - holy jesus did someone have a HEAVY pour! Normally, that's a good thing, right? Not so much . . .
We all had made plans for Uber or such, so we were prepared to drink to our hearts' content! (Gah did I need a ladies night out!) My awesome hubs had made a trip to McDonalds about an hour prior to heading out to specifically get me a large fry. This would prevent me from hogging the appetizers that were provided and all the grease would prevent me from getting sick from too much alcohol (old trick from my college days).
Now, admittedly, my liver is out of shape. I'm over 40 with a husband and a kid. I'm not near the drinker I was 10 or 20 years ago.
Normally, when having any type of vodka drink, I down the first rather quickly, and order a second to milk for a while. I wait the standard 2 hours and then have zero issue driving.
Here, I ordered 2 martinis across the course of 3+ hours, and I was SMASHED! I mean the nearlye can't walk, strip the clothes off throughout the house on the way to the bathroom type trashed. I praised the porcelain goddess ALL night long - as in I slept on the bathroom floor. AFTER TWO SOUR APPLE MARTINIS! TWO! (Yes, I swear it. 2!)
This was like reliving my early 20's when I could drink all I wanted, and didn't care if I got alcohol poisoning type of a drunk. Nobody wants THAT.
So my suggestion is if you get a drink at this place and it seems strong, know that IT IS. Ask them to add some more mix too it. Otherwise, make plans on how you're going to explain to your kid the next morning why mommy can't take you to your BFF's birthday party and daddy...
Read moreZosa, A Led Zeppelin tribute show. 2023 makes 28 years the band has played together. Great music. I almost thought I was listening to Robert Plant singing. Their performance lasted about 3 hours but was still too short. Afterward, the band members came down off the stage and did a "meet and greet" with the fans...hands were shaken, pictures were taken, and autographs were signed. They appreciated the audience as much as the audience enjoyed listening to them sing and watching them perform. The State Theater holds about 500 people, at least 200 standing room only, but the crowd appreciated them to the point it seemed to be several times this number. Surprisingly, the food is good and reasonably priced. I had a pulled pork BBQ sandwich, fries, and homemade Cole slaw. $7.00. Mixed drinks were well made with honest pours, and the beer was ice cold in bottles. The crowd was very diverse, young teens, their parents, and many more people my age. It's best to make "table reservations" or you may not be able to sit anywhere, anytime before, during, and after the show. There's limited floor space for dancing đ unless you consider where you're standing as a possible dance floor. Then get down to it and get taken back to 1980 and boogie. I didn't see it, but I could smell the sweet aroma of good Ganga đ...
Read moreWhat a gem in Falls Church! We recently went to The State Theatre for a yacht rock show featuring Thurston Howell, and it was such a fantastic experience. The venue itself has such a cool vibeâit used to be an old movie theater and now hosts live music and comedy shows. Itâs got this perfect mix of history and fun energy.
One big plus is the free parking at Whole Foods and Kaiserâit makes the night out so much easier. Another pleasant surprise? The food! I ordered a burger that was cooked perfectly, and the housemade potato chips were out of this world. My friend had the pulled pork barbecue sandwich and couldnât stop raving about itâespecially since the prices are super reasonable for a live music venue.
And while Thurston Howell absolutely rocked the stage, one of the highlights of the night was our bartender. I wish I remembered her name, but she was an absolute starâfriendly, fast, and attentive. Nobody at the bar ever seemed to be waiting for anything because she was just that good.
All in all, this place checks every box: great music, great food, and great service. I canât wait to come back for...
