TWO THUMBS WAY WAY DOWN! I looked into this gym because of the pool and the large amount of equipment and was hoping that some of the fitness classes would fit into my schedule. The sales manager at the time, Ryan, was super friendly and gave me all the information I needed without making me jump through hoops or deal with any annoying sales pitches, so I joined. (Would actually give the gym more stars if he was still there but he's not, so now it's really awful!) He then signed me up with Jay, the GM of Personal Training, to get a fitness assessment. During the assessment, Jay told me all of these things that would be included with the personal training program if I signed a contract. This included help with meal planning, instruction on the equipment so I could workout on my own outside the pt sessions and then one on ones with a trainer 1-2 times a week. I was on the fence about the whole thing but I thought it might be a good idea depending on the price. Then we sat down at the desk and he gave me these exorbitant amounts that it would cost a month. I kept saying that it wasn't in my budget and that I needed to speak with my fiance' before making a financial decision of that magnitude but he wouldn't take no for an answer. He kept pushing and arguing until he finally broke me down and I signed up even though I didn't want to. I felt 100% forced. He didn't even ask me what form of payment I wanted to use, just took it upon himself to charge the debit card on file before I could change my mind. After that, I did use 3 or 4 sessions but the only thing that I got were workouts using barely any equipment. Stuff I could've done cheaper using workout DVDs at home. No meal plan, no instruction on weight equipment, given only two options for trainers out of the many they have and married to a monthly payment for something I'm not satisfied with and therefore won't use. Needless to say, I've been in touch with corporate to try and get out of the contract but so far I've just gotten an email back from some jerk named Nate who disregarded everything I said and gave me the generic response of 'I can't help you!' These people only want your money but legitimately do not care about anything else! Really disgusted!
And as for the gym itself, it's always really dirty. People barely ever clean the equipment when they're done using it. I heard one girl in the locker room say she got foot fungus from walking on the floor one time in there when she forgot her flip flops and came right from work. The pool is always full or closed. I often see the sales staff eating fast food or donuts and outside smoking...aren't they supposed to be promoting...
Read moreFacility is above par for a fitness club, not fantastic. Has a lap pool, spin room and a dance/hardwood floor room for whatever classes that are offered. Also has racquetball courts And a full court for basketball.
They recently got rid of spray bottles and paper towels as means for people to sanitize after using machines, which I have personally noticed that it has affected the cleanliness of the machines in between each gym goer. I'd suggest bringing your own towel to lay on or put in between yourself and the machine if you're a germ-a-phob.
The crowd is usually middle to older aged folks before noon (all the handicapped spots are taken at this time) theres a few middle aged to older men who yap their mouths more than actual working out, they look like old Chads, easy to spot. They'll hog multiple machines at once and yap so nobody else can use them for hours. Overall, it is a diverse crowd from mostly basic "black pepper is spicy" white people, Boricuas and Latin Americans, wanna be Ballers, Ex-druggies/felons, overly flamboyant homosexuals, to Casino Indians and dunkin donut Indians, not to mention daddy issue girls with their ridiculous gym attire choices. It's always entertaining. I can't speak for the PM crowd, I can only assume it intensifies.
Equipment is in fair condition. Some are pretty dated but get done what you need to. Plenty of stationary cardiovascular equipment. I have memberships at Crunch, Retro, Planet, and YMCA. When I say above par for the local competition, it's the better pricier pick of the chain fitness clubs. Inquire at Crunch if you're looking for more budget conscious gym but still nicer than the rest mentioned above.
Staff / personal trainers are friendly except one. There's always one, he always has a hat on and has extremely small feet. He also drives like a maniac and almost caused an accident, this man has zero regards for anyones life safety, he probably does this every day. We call these people "douche and a half'ers" in the Military, avoid this clown. Just remember stay away from indoor wearing hat and small feet personal trainer guy and you'll have a...
Read moreI used to love LA fitness as a company. A pool in any state I go to! Yeah except I live HERE and the pool (AND hot tub) have been closed for a year. The equipment is ancient (you can tell because all of the cardio machines have the charger for iPhones before the lightning cable got standardized). Every stationary bike has at least a corner of the plastic missing and half at any given time have out of order signs on them. The bar for lat pull-downs is missing half its grip. As one of the other reviews mentions, one of the row machines broke (of which there were already only 2) and they just took it away instead of fixing it. I don’t know why other reviews say this place is clean. It’s gross. There was glass on the floor when I went in today. There’s been a nasty red stain in one of the shower stalls for 8 months. It needs to be retiled and grouted. They did eventually put the shower head back in with a very poor silicone job. Oh. And while we’re on the showers, be sure to turn it off when you hear the toilet flush or it’ll melt your flesh off 🥰 Management clearly doesn’t want to pay people to clean and fix this place. They hire one Hispanic couple (who I’m not convinced actually gets paid what they should if you gather my meaning). They do what they can, the wife cleans and the husband repairs… but this is a huge gym and all that work cannot efficiently fall to only two people. Jarring note change; This is not a safe gym for women (or woman passing). I’ve been flashed and asked for my number by randos several times (I’ve literally never been hit on in a gym before this one). And that wasn’t even the final straw. The final straw was hearing one of the sales managers straight up LYING to new costumers about why and how long the hot tub and pool had been closed. Absolutely disgusting. My crew and I will be finding a different gym. I will miss Caroline’s yoga class… but...
