Glen Oaks Golf Course — Attraction in Farmington Hills

I booked an 18-hole round for 5 players at 11:30 AM. Upon arrival, we were informed that due to the rain the previous night, the course would be closing early at 3 PM, and our booking was changed to 9 holes. We paid $32 each (was $52 for 18 holes). We were told that if we played quickly, we could continue past 9 holes until the early closure at 3 PM.

Our group played as fast as possible, finishing the 9 holes by 1:30 PM. However, when we reached the turn, we were stopped by the same staff member who informed us that they were closing at 2:30 PM and that we could not continue. This contradicted the earlier information we were given, as we were told we could play until 3 PM. The staff member’s attitude was dismissive, and when I pointed out the inconsistency, he refused to acknowledge his earlier statement and showed no willingness to apologize or offer any form of resolution. He said “I can’t let you play through for free” when we offered to play for another 45 minutes and come back. It was extremely cheap.

Course is in better shape than what I remember however $41 senior rate during the week for 18 holes riding is excessive for a round of golf during the week. Just like all of the courses in Oakland county they have much higher rates than courses outside the metro area. All of the Detroit area courses in the Detroit Metro area have been charging excessive fees so we have been driving to the outside areas to play generally at half the price. Plus, the grounds crew count seems to very high (County employees I believe) since there were machines and lawn tractors all over the place. I inquired about a County discount since it is the public county dollars supporting the course and they said they used to but not any more? One additional tidbit I went back to the course and subsequently was stung by hornets and they even have signs on the course to beware however I did not see them until it was to late. COURSE 👍 - The course boasts good upkeep, characterized by well-maintained fairways and greens. The relatively small greens, plentiful narrow fairways, and good number of sand bunkers add an engaging level of challenge to the game.

VALUE for THE MONEY 👍 - The tee fee, priced at $52, is well-justified, considering the overall quality of the course and amenities provided.
