Yesterday we went out with Amelia Island Kayak Excursions for a trip across the channel to Cumberland Island. I have to admit I was a bit nervous about the whole idea of crossing the channel to the island. Last month when we toured Fort Clinch and saw how far out it was, I was having second thoughts about actually doing it! Mark and his team quickly squashed any apprehension I was feeling and this was even before we got in our kayaks! Their enthusiasm, skill and love of the sport are contagious. Any fears I had were quickly put to rest with their teaching and guidance. The equipment was in excellent condition and well cared for. We had a fabulous time and I can’t wait for our next visitors to come so we can take them out on this excursion! We had pretty good wind so it was a great workout getting across the channel especially on the return trip. Mark and Brad were excellent tour guides and had all of us in our group paddling like pros (well, we would like to think so LOL). We were in the water only minutes and saw our first manatee who graciously decided to flip her tail for us! We also saw dolphins and the wild horses on Cumberland Island. You have several choices for kayaking companies here on Amelia Island; you will not regret choosing this family run business as your guide for fun...
Read moreMy family had one of our most memorable outdoor experiences with Amelia Island Kayak Excursions. I can’t say enough great things about the owner Mark Bullington who himself led us on the 2-hour trip. We were a family of 4 (2 adults and 2 teenagers), and most of us were beginners. In two hours, not only did my entire family learn paddling skills but they developed a new found love for this beautiful outdoor activity! And Lofton Creek was serene and amazing! Mark was most patient, observing and helping each paddler with tips and suggestions, as we progressed through the trip. We started off with my 2 teenagers in a tandem, and me and my wife on individual kayaks. On the way back, Mark suggested we switch the combinations, so my daughter moved to the individual kayak, and I helped my son on the tandem. Yes, it did take some additional effort for Mark to do the switch, but we appreciated that his focus and priority was us, and to ensure that we, as tourists, get absolutely the best experience, with no compromise. What stuck with me was his comment that he really enjoyed working with beginners as they are very excited about what they experience/learn on the trip. Lofton Creek is very pretty and we also saw some turtles and wild life. Definitely recommend when you visit...
Read moreThe experience with Amelia Island Kayak Excursions is incredible all-around. It's fun, engaging, adventurous, educational, and ultimately memorable for all the right reasons.
My wife and I did the Cumberland Island kayak tour with Aaron, and it was outstanding. Aaron was fun and engaging, and his historical lectures about the area were excellent. He’s a storyteller—that’s what history is all about! If you enjoy learning about the history of the island, from the indigenous to the French vs. Spanish to the Carnegies to even a Kennedy, Aaron is your man. As for Cumberland Island itself, it's quiet, beautiful, and relaxing. We did get a glimpse of the famous wild horses from a distance, so at least we can say we saw them. The actual kayaking to and from the island was fun and enjoyable, apart from my wife yelling at me every now and then to turn. I have tried the past couple of days to find a way to fault Amelia Island Kayak Excursions for that, but alas, I cannot.
I highly recommend this agency and give it an A+ rating with no hesitation. We have kayaked with them twice now, and we will most definitely be doing another excursion with them again; the only question is whether to do a repeat experience or a...
