After over a year of talking about visiting, my sister & I finally made our way to Negus Winery. This was not only a first time visiting, for each of us, but also part of my birthday celebration; and, the experience did not disappoint.

Negus is a hidden gem kind of spot. Small but positively delightful and intimate. Gīzē has very good customer service skills, and is meticulous in his execution of everything. Not to mention his friendly, welcoming demeanor.

We did a full wine tasting, and tried the charcuterie board--which included all their edible options. Their wine selection includes 3 grape wine options & 4 honey wines. There is a wine here for most any preference and palate as the wines range from dry & full-bodied to fruity & sweet. There's even a sparkling rosé.

The atmosphere was calm and welcoming during our visit. Though, in peak hours, I imagine the place can get lively.

Negus offers indoor seating as well as outdoor seating. The decor is perfect for the location, on both fronts.

As a first time visitor, the only negative I took notice of was parking; however, after speaking with Gīzē, he pointed out where best to park.

Visiting Negus Winery was a great call, on my sister's part, and a very nice start to my birthday weekend. I left the experience feeling like "I can't wait to return for my next visit". The attention to detail and personal touches during our visit to Negus were "luxe" level. Gīzē truly did make the experience positively memorable.

I very highly recommend Negus Winery for anything from date night, to group gatherings; even a solo visit. Well worth the visit, and a great place to simply hangout & enjoy the vibe.

5 stars. Will be...

My recent visit to Negus Winery in Alexandria, VA, was a revelation. Tucked away behind the metro station in an unassuming industrial area, Negus Winery proudly stands as the first Ethiopian Honey Wine establishment in the DMV area.

The tasting options, ranging from a single glass to a comprehensive seven-wine tasting for $35, showcase a distinctive collection not commonly found in the DMV. Each wine tells a story of craftsmanship and innovation that sets Negus Winery apart.

Despite the modest space, the ambience is intimate, offering a cosy setting for wine exploration. The delightful staff, whose names elude me, were not just sweet and welcoming but also displayed an impressive knowledge of the wines they poured. Their enthusiasm added an extra layer to the tasting experience, making it not just a journey through flavours but a genuine connection with the winemaking process.

Navigating the small space might require a brief wait for a seat or a willingness to share a communal table, but the intimate setting only enhances the overall charm. Every wine presented during the tasting was not only excellent but uniquely crafted, making it challenging to articulate their profound character, yet undeniably worth the drive and the price.

Negus Winery isn't just a destination; it's a hidden gem in the DMV area. The exceptional wines, coupled with the warm and knowledgeable staff, create an experience that transcends the ordinary. This winery isn't just a treat for oneself but also an extraordinary present for any wine lover in the DMV area. If you seek a wine-tasting adventure that defies the norm, Negus Winery is a must-visit...

I chose Negus Winery to celebrate my husband’s 45th birthday, and it turned out to be the perfect fit for our family and friends. The space felt intimate, welcoming, and just right for our gathering. Thank you for allowing us to bring in our own food and cake—it truly made the celebration even more special.

We really enjoyed the wine selection. As wine enthusiasts, one thing we look forward to at wineries is the opportunity to learn more about what we’re tasting. A brief 1-on-1 or even an ideal food pairings—would’ve added an extra layer of enjoyment.

One small suggestion: if staffing is limited, having a trashcan easily accessible would be helpful, especially when transitioning from the tasting to the dinner portion. We’re more than happy to assist when needed—we just appreciate having the tools to help make things flow smoothly.

Overall, it was a beautiful experience, and we’re grateful for the warm hospitality. Thank you again for helping us create a memorable evening! We own a Caribbean catering company @spicescatering.com, let us know if you ever want to work together, it would...
