Stay away. We just attended their cemetery walk and I am appalled as the event was a vehicle for racist propaganda.
In two of the skits, there were efforts to humanize and rebrand the KKK.
The talking points: 👎🏼The KKK was a great group of people because they gave money to save a church and help a widow. 👎🏼 The KKK was a service organization that sadly got changed along the way. 👎🏼 It's ok that one of the featured dead guys was part of the KKK because he didn't burn any crosses, and he didn't hurt anyone. 👎🏼 The KKK wore the white hats for anonymous acts of charity and the robes were white because of their purity and good deeds. The evidence provided was that the KKK wore them to give the money to the church anonymously.
This event appears to be a concerted effort to gaslight area residents about what the KKK actually was and is. These talking points were complete detours to the stories being told and interruptions to the flow of the performances. It was violent rhetoric inserted into the narratives to purposely mislead the audience and distribute disinformation and it...
Read moreI had high hopes for this Lanterns and Legends event. However I was very disappointed when a character attempted to rebrand the KKK. At first I thought it was a one-off until the same talking points were again brought up by a different “legend”.
The characters tried to say that the Klan was simply a social club filled with kind and benevolent men who raised money for the Protestant church and widows, when in fact they were a racist and tyrannical group who murdered, maimed and terrorized entire communities. It is irrelevant the “good deeds” they did for their white neighbors. The were classified a terrorist organization for a reason.
History can be messy and uncomfortable. We need to be very clear that these groups were a menace to society and should not be whitewashed. Inserting the fact that these historical members of our town were part of this group is not the issue. We should be able to speak truthfully about our town. However, attempting to say that the KKK “wasn’t that bad” is gaslighting and untrue.
This event was a good idea. Please take this criticism...

There is also a brewery a wine tasting area and a popcorn candy shop. There are also a few cup of Joe coffee places to hang out in. The center park is so nice so glad that we stopped. What a peaceful place to sit and have a nice...
