The tenacity of this business and the owners says a lot about how much they stand behind what they providing to the community. Starting off during a pandemic was surely not what they were expecting and yet they have added so much to the downtown Frankfort area I wonder what we did before they were here?
Let's start off with the owners. Ever present online and in person and making sure that they know their clientele and what people are looking for when they come through the doors.
The staff is always friendly and while their smiles have been stashed away behind masks while they keep people safe, you can always feel their warmth in their voices and helpful suggestions.
Michael is ready with a quip and the best suggestions with what to taste during your visit. I have always had some laughs as well with some great jokes! Personalized service beyond measure!
Ian was kind enough to keep a tasting aside for me to try the last time I was there and it really didn't disappoint. Lots of time and effort goes into their wine and beer selections and it shows. His knowledge of wines, their locations, pairings and what to seek out is bar none.
How about the food you wonder?! Well...it is everything you would want and more. Creamy smooth cheese to enrobe your crunchy bits of bread in with the Fort. Gluten free you say? The GF pizza makes even the most hearty gluten lovers wanting more! Want to spice up your night? Get the jalapeno poppers. These aren't your chain restaurant style overly breaded and fried. TWT Poppers are refined and have the right balance of heat and the peppers have that toothsome feel, not too soggy. The bacon isn't lounging around limp, it has a crisp snap. Paired with a couple of pickled red onions, perfectly done! I'm glad I have friends to share with otherwise the entire plate would be polished off by me!
Sadly, I have only had the sights and smells of the desserts because I'm too stuffed to enjoy another morsel. I promised myself that next time I must go for just wine and dessert, all the more reason to get back soon!
Please do Frankfort, The Wine Thief and your stomach a favor and get over to see Ed, Val and the whole crew soon! You will be booking your next trip...
Read moreThis was our first time coming and we really had high hopes. We looked at the menu online and were really excited about ceviche, shrimp and grits, and a couple other dishes. When we got to the restaurant, the menu was entirely different. To the point that if the updated menu was online we probably wouldn't have come. We chose to sit outside because the bluegrass fest was going on and the waitstaff was helpful and friendly. It was kind of annoying that they had their own music playing on the patio instead of letting the music from the fest be the centerpiece. The only thing we actually like that we ordered was the corn chowder. It was so flavorful and good. We ordered the thai chicken meatballs...they were very bland and the presentation was kinda unappealing.. balls of meat with a weird pickle slapped on top. I ordered the lasagna....I did not know it was possible to make a bad lasagna. This one has 30 layers of mushy pasta, dry cheese, and sauce that was just kind of poured over the top scantily. I had about 5 bites and decided that it wasn't worth eating because it literally had no taste to it. I would have rather had frozen lasagna than this. My friend ordered the braised beef...sirloin with mushroom and some sort of risotto. Unfortunately it tasted like microwave on-cor Salisbury steak and the risotto reminded us of oatmeal mixed with sausage gravy. My brother had the walleye and he said it was "ok". It came in a bowl on top of almond ferro salad that looked very much like rice pudding. He said it tasted like oatmeal with nuts in it. We really had high hopes for this place since it's a little local place. We really wanted to like it. Based on the service and ambience, probably would definitely come back...but based on the food, unfortunately definitely...
Read moreKelly brought it all back home!! Relaxed, friendly, knowledgeable all in one server. Able to clearly talk about and KNOW about the wines served. So fun to be able to actually talk wine with your server at a restaurant specializing in wine. The food was exquisite as usual....the outdoor decor seems to have fell off a bit.
Not as crisp this visit. Server was young and didn't figure put his name until saw it on the receipt. Also brought our 2nd round of ordered apps right along with the entrees. Continuously thanked us for our patience however. Hopefully next time this will be taught/learned.
Visited again last night. Nick took swell care of us in one of the pods! Again great knowledge of the wine list along with being able to fully engage us both with simple genuine conversation. The scallop was perfectly prepared with deep flavor. Love their take on the gnocchi! Thank you for not bathing the chicken marsala in sauce. I will be back for the bouillabaise as well. Both absolutely exquisite entrees! See you soon!!
My muse and I visited again this past weekend....all I can say is THANK YOU Elizabeth!! Thank you for being bright and smiling and knowledgeable of your wine list along with the food menu. We really appreciated your entire vibe. Thank you for using our names....see you soon and please believe I spread the word among my circle of friends. Safe, friendly, intimate environment overall. See you soon!
