I went here for the first time 5 months ago and absolutely fell in love with it. It's gorgeous and not dirty like other downtown areas I've been to before. There were people walking their dogs and nobody rudely bumped into you as they past and the resturants and shops are amazing. However, if you're wanting to go visit later then 9 pm especially around certain bar areas, I'd advise proceeding with caution especially if you have kids with you. Me and my boyfriend visited Carrol Creek again last night and it was of course beautiful and everything was fine until we started walking the resturant and shop area. While we were in this area I had a guy yell at me that he was going to punch me in the face if I looked at him one more time (in reality I hadn't looked at him until he started yelling at me), we went to a tavern around 7:15ish, not that late but late enough for groups of people to start getting hammered I guess as they were being very obnoxious and loud, when we left there were a bunch of teenagers dangerously riding their bikes on the road and sidewalks poping wheelys and monuvering around people and to top it all off we saw a very drunk guy fall on the ground and a few minutes later he proceeded to urinate on someone's car parked on the side of the street. At this point it was only 9:30 and I didn't even want to walk the creek like we had last time I just wanted to leave. The only thing that made it a little better was running into a very friendly cat that belomgs to a resident there.Nothing like this happened last time we went here and we had stayed till close to 11 pm. It may have had to do with the time and being in that area at that time because last time we mostly just walked and talked around the creek area till we left. Even though our experience last night wasn't the best I'm still giving it five stars because its too nice of a place to get anything less because of drunken idiots. I'd still go back but just probably eat dinner earlier and stay away from the bars when it gets too...
Read moreThis beautiful linear park nestled in the center of downtown Frederick, Maryland is a popular site for locals and tourists. It started as a flood mitigation project almost 30 years ago, and has grown into one of the best features in the community. Bike and walking paths extend along both sides and link the Frederick Fairgrounds to the downtown, Baker Park, and beyond west of Route 15. Near the downtown area, there are tons of restaurants, distilleries, breweries, and shops along the creek with plenty of outdoor seating in the warmer months. There are multiple art installations, water features, and decorative and architectural bridges along the Creek, including the Iron Bridge, the famous Community Mural Art Bridge (the very first community art project on the Creek), and the Stonework Art bridge. An antique and authentic covered bridge is located just west of Baker Park. A kinetic sculpture art feature was recently added to the eastern portion of the park. An outdoor amphitheater has regular outdoor concerts and movie nights. (Many are totally free to the public) There are craft and art festivals regularly along the Creek, too. Carroll Creek is transformed in the Spring and Summer to a literal water garden with tons of blooming plants and lotus flowers. In the Winter, the Creek again transforms to an evening light show with floating boats covered in multi-colored lights. A great place to visit, take a long walk, hang out, have a drink or a great meal, and spend time with your family or friends. It’s a definite “do not miss” if you are planning to...
Read moreI've pass through Frederick so many times, but it has never occurred to me to pause and explore the city. One day I looked it up through TripAdvisor. I immediately grew an interest in Carrol Creek Park, with its pictures featured on top 2 of the list. Sorry Yelp, in terms of Things To Do, TripAdvisor is still the leader; CCP is listed as #171 on Yelp's Things To Do in Frederick MD search!!
The main focal point is the segment of the creek at S. Market St. The arched stone bridge featuring a funky artistic mechanical clock immediately captured my attention. In the stretch of creek in front it were a whole variety of water lilies. Not sure how long water lilies bloom, but I consider myself lucky because they were all blooming and they were amazing.
Both sides of the banks along this section of the creek are brick pavement, very well done and maintained. There's also an amphitheater and several artificial. The whole setting is very inviting and conducive to taking a good stroll, which can be last for miles but I have yet to spend more time to explore beyond the immediate area around the clock bridge. I will definitely be back after this initial exploratory visit.
Metered street parking is $2 per hour and I had no problem finding a spot...
