We have two teenagers and the last couple of years many of the wineries in this area only welcome 21+ only. This is crazy, we have been bringing our children to wineries since they were babies. My husband and I would always sit outside with a glass of wine; playing cards, chatting with our kids, and admiring the view.

I called many of the wineries we had enjoyed in the past and they told us teenagers were not welcome anymore, and that is how I ended up calling Pontotoc Weingarten. I had never heard of them, but they said families were welcome and we decided to check them out.

It was a little difficult to locate their Weingarten at first as they are tucked away between 2 larger buildings, but we had no problem finding parking right across the street. I have family from Germany and have visited the country many times, and Pontotoc reminded me of a Weingarten in a small German town. Pontotoc is right off Main St. but didn’t feel like it because of the thick rock walls surrounded the garden. There were plenty of places to sit outside and the small building and location was absolutely lovely. The owner was amazing and suggested the sangria which we tried and it was delicious! I don’t like sweet drinks, but this sangria was very subtly sweetened and had hints of orange and lemon. The wine we tried was also wonderful.

This has been my favorite place to visit for wine in Fredericksburg and we will be back. I can’t wait to try their picnic basket! The best part of the experience was being able to have our teenage boys warmly welcomed. If you want a romantic place to bring your date or a relaxing outside location to sit and visit with your family, make sure you visit...

I cannot believe I have never been to this winery and wine garden before! Its right on Main and so easy to get to but also so discrete and hidden, its easy to miss as little signage is noticeable unless you know where to look for it. Once you go inside you won't ever forget where it is or how to get there. Way awesome place to chill out and spend a sunny afternoon with a chef-designed picnic basket of goodies and some terrific Texas-grown wine.

Owner-Couple Carl and Frances are spectacular people plain and simple. What a story they have and how kind are they! They have their kids involved in the business as well and they do great jobs as well. The hospitality we got from these two and the direct small talk they took the time to give us was priceless. The wine-tasting flight of 4 wines was thumbs up all around. Not one we disliked. Even the Tempranillo sangria frozen drink my wife got was very good! Not too sweet at all, very refreshing and tasty.

The artisan sourdough bread with pimento cheese we got was also very good and I suggest anyone get this with their wine tasting. The wine garden is unique only to this place as no one else really has anything like this in the downtown Main St. area. It sits next to the oldest standing building in the town also, built in 1846!

Wife and I plan to come back here every time we go to FRED...

Don't miss this amazing establishment! The building is original to downtown; old, beautiful, cozy, with a small indoor space, a cellar open for seating, and a large outdoor area.

We sat inside and were served by the utterly delightful Karen. Such a sweet heart! She was so knowledgeable about the wines and the history of the vineyard. We enjoyed talking with her and other guests who were visiting the tasting room.

To start with, we sampled the rose, the Sangria, and 3 reds. Sangria lovers run to this place for the most refreshing Sangria you will ever taste. And don't miss the rose! So delicious and smooth. (I left with 2 bottles of it! Ha!)

YES they have food but not just store bought food thrown on a plate! The "Pincic Basket" is all homemade and frankly out of this world delicious! The best pimento cheese ever! Homemade sourdough bread, sugared pecans, and sea salt chocolate chip cookie to die for! No joke! Don't deny your taste buds! (See attached picture of the "picnic basket.")

Thank you, Karen, for being a part of our fabulous and tasty experience at Pontotac. We will be stopping by on our way out of town on Sunday for more bottles to take...

Lovely, peaceful, and genuine atmosphere. It is truly family run, with his children, wife, and grandchildren all being present and helping or quietly playing. It was very warming to see the whole family present. The owner was very inviting and quick to make sure we had everything we needed. They were all extremely kind and I appreciated the history they shared about their vineyard. I got the tasting with three reds and one rose. They were all delicious!! My favorite was the Syrah blend. Now the sangria was exceptional!!! It was 40degrees outside and we still ordered it (it comes over ice), that’s how delicious it was. The wife prepares homemade picnic-like charcuterie boards. I couldn’t order it because of the gluten, but it sounded and looked great. Even though it’s on Main Street, it feels quiet and peacefully secluded because of the stone walls. We will definitely be returning!

Wish we could of spent more time here. The patio setting was such a great experience. The different sitting areas also gave it a personal touch!! We loved the sangrias 🙌 The reviews didn’t lie. The taste was awesome. You do have the option to purchase a bottle of it in a glass container! The two gentleman who greeted us were very nice. I wish I would of gotten their names. Overall experience was amazing. Will come back for round 2! This is a kid friendly place. My kids were walking around and looking at the setting. I would recommend bringing some sort of games to keep them entertained. We had two deck of cards that we enjoyed playing over a delicious cup of sangria!! The wine tasting was great as well. We didn’t get to try the food items as our time was cut short but we want to try it out next time and plan to spend more time there!!
