I saw where a guy was complaining about the Oktoberfest but I think the food and wine fest was worse unfortunately. The last time I went I had a great time but this time I was very disappointed and of course the parking is always hard to find as it is and of course they blocked off parking that could have been used. And it was misleading because when they said you could get three samples for the six tickets it came with the $25 ticket to get in actually due to inflation it was false advertising because Fiesta lines was charging four tickets for a tiny sample taste and then it was 10 tickets for a considered full glass which was still maybe 3/4 or less at the other line on the glass and I appreciate you got a little bag and a little free wine glass and I wasn't much free samples of anything and the only Booth I enjoyed was the one where you could buy the $20 bags of condiments or soap stuff cuz those were good deals and they had free samples of the jelly or whatever. At least the beer was six tickets at a dollar a ticket for a whole plastic cup of beer which was more enjoyable and the wood fire pizza was OK. The bathrooms were okay and I noticed the lady in there cleaning them with the line a little long but not too bad. The worst line I saw was for the pizza LOL but it wasn't too bad and there was some nice vendors there but I was really upset that at first you see you're only going to get three samples at two chicken seeds cuz you get six tickets included with your ticket but when you get up to the counter and they're like four tickets for a tiny Taste of something and 10 tickets which is $10 for 3/4 of the way filled little wine glass of you are lucky. So it sounds like October Fest was less expensive but this experience was not satisfying at all so I won't be back and I did spend a little over $40 on stuff when I was there between drinks and food and the $20 basket of goodies and then of course the ticket was $25 and you had to drive all the way and find parking and you can bring your backpack but they search it but they let me bring in a bottle of water so that's the only nice thing. Nowhere near as fun at all and next time I'll just go buy a bottle of wine or go do a tasting and a winery. I wonder why inflation is so bad all of a sudden but I'm not enjoying it anymore cuz it's ruining everything that used to be fun. It look like a nice setup but I didn't even go and look at everything cuz I knew that it was all going to cost a bunch of money and there was a nice wood barrel place there we could buy lazy Susan's made out of the wine barrels or beer barrels that stuff was cool but I couldn't...
Read moreGreat place for food, drink and shopping. The B&B's in town were great. Sadly there are only a few left that actually include the breakfast. The wine tasting tours are a blast. You can also go to the Fredericksburg visitor's center and for $20 they have shuttles that stop at multiple wineries on highway 290. There's waaay too many places to mention, but I like beer soo... There are also a couple of breweries as well. The Fredericksburg Brewing Company is on main Street in town. I recommend the Enchanted Rock Red Ale and the Pioneer Porter. The Pedernales Brewing Company is about 10 minutes out of town. And there is a new brewery starting up right outside of town called the Altstadt Brewery. The brewery is up and running now but the restaurant, gift shop and touristy stuff isn't in operation as of this review. And of course there is the Admiral Nimitz Museum which is right across from the visitor's center. It's really...
Read moreWe go every year for Oktoberfest, this was lit tenth year to go. We have made it a tradition of ours and get excited every year that fall begins here in central Texas. It’s pretty much the same every year the biggest change year in and year out is the size of the crowd. It gets busier and busier every year it seems and this year was the busiest yet. It was way too crowded, you could barely walk around and there were some pretty long lines. It’s just not as fun when there are too many people, I get it people love Oktoberfest but this one has gotten too crowded. We will still go, it’s our tradition but we spend less and less time walking around. Like any Oktoberfest, if you love beer, German culture, and shopping at farmers markets then this is the event for you. Great for kids as well but this year the kid area was a disappointment they had less activities for...
