I've written one review about the actual trip and more about the train's destination and other local attractions on the Frostburg side of the trip. Wow! This was an absolutely amazing day. My wife and I took my 5 year old son. We had free range over the entire train despite being in only the second tier price package. We were sadly limited from first class and the bubble car because of my son's age. But that didn't restrict us from getting amazing service from the most wonderful staff I've yet encountered on my many journeys. The Western Maryland Railway from Cumberland to Frostburg, MD, is a wonderful time that no one should miss. It is cheap, beautiful, fun, educational, and downright exciting. I cannot say enough good things about the staff. These people live for this and it shows! The passion they have is absolutely awe inspiring. DON'T...
Read moreWe rode the Frostburg Flyer in their beautiful Dome Car! We had panoramic views of the fall foliage, which were stunning! The train went slow enough that you could enjoy the scenery, but not so slow that you felt the ride was dragging on. The drink menu was comprehensive, and the appetizers offered were delicious. It was $150 per ticket for the Dome, but the lower class tickets were much cheaper. Frostburg was somewhat disappointing due to very few shops being open, but there was a wonderful bakery up the hill to the right, and on the right side of the street as you walk up. Hand made cupcakes and cookies, and hoagie sandwiches with drinks and chips were available for purchase, as well as paintings, holiday decorations, and tumblers. Definitely worth a visit if you like sweet treats! Overall, the experience was lovely. I highly recommend...
Read moreWe did the Polar Express steam train. My son loves trains and would have had been happy even if it was not the holiday theme. We booked the dome car but didn't realize it was the lower level until we got there. Our car only had 4 kids and 8 adults so we had a lot of room and big leather seats. We hoped for more Christmas lights set up on the ride as it was just dark most of the time with no view. There was only one little part that had Christmas lights set up. The staff was very friendly, especially the gentleman working in our car. They gave a cookie, hot chocolate, read the Polar Express book, and Santa came through to give a special surprise. We will be back for the fall rides as I think it would be better being able to have a view in the daylight. The surrounding town...
