I have recently concalled my membership at Baileys location in Gainesville FL and am now in my 30 days grace period. However, I am writing to inform you that I will no longer be able to use the facility. I do not expect any pro rating or anything and I understand that my bill at the end of July will be my last one. I just think it is important for corporate Baileys headquarters to understand how poorly the branch here in Gainesville is run. The reason I am no longer able to use the facility for the rest of my grace period is frankly the smell. The entire gym smells completely rancid but the back room smells like straight urine and has not for over a year. I am not sure if corporate sets the rules and guidelines for cleaning or if that is left up to the branch manager. (In this case, Warren) But whatever guidelines they are using obviously need to be tweaked if not rethought completely. Warren says they clean the place everyday for 20 minutes and is quick to remind people that it is a 24 hour facility but in my mind that is the exact origin of the problem. I am not sure if his cleaning crew doesn't do their job, if he doesn't enforce the cleaning or what. But if the entire place smells like urine and rotting garbage, then obviously 20 minutes each day is NOT going to cut it when your facility is several thousand square feet with several hundred people sweating in it each day. I am having trouble understanding how the branch manager and corporate see this as acceptable. Obviously, if the "cleaning" that is being done is still leaving the place with that bad of an odor, they either need to invest slightly more than 20 minutes each day or hire a third party company who actually knows what they are doing to come in and clean to get the smell out of there. Even in these times of COVID, a mask is still not enough to get rid of that horrid putrid smell that I simply cannot deal with anymore. I know for a fact that I am not the only one to complain to corporate about this yet nothing is done about it. Just thought it would be important for corporate to understand what is going on in their locations they may not visit very regularly. But I guess I shouldnt expect much more from a company who was sued for forging a...
Read moreDo yourself a favor and do not sign a contract with this gym. While the facility is mostly clean, with the exception of a constant ammonia smell throughout the upper floor, the staff that sign you up will not adequately or accurately explain the contract and give you false information. I was told that I could very easily exit my contract if I had medical reasons or if I moved more than 25 miles from a Baileys location. What they neglect to tell you is that the "medical reasons" that you must provide are some that have to persist for the entirety of your contract. So after a car accident that resulted in a misaligned spine and pelvis where I could not actively use the gym for months due to doctors orders I still had to pay for a membership since the doctor set my recovery time with PT within the time of my contract. Next they will gouge you for every fee if you move out of the area, $50 for a cancellation fee, $30 for the last month, an additional $30 when the initial notice you originally provided to staff at the gym was not recorded, and then another $30 when the documents you provide to prove you have moved are not sufficient. Corporate will return your calls days after you leave them messages, the managers will not be able to take your calls when you request to speak with them, and as a corporate entity they will do everything in their power to drive you for every last cent. I have been a member at gyms where equipment was not maintained to the degree of actual physical danger, I have been thrown from a treadmill due to a loose track belt, I have even been mildly electrocuted due to a short that was left damaged in a watering fountain, I would gladly go back to those gyms rather than set foot in a Bailey's health and...
Read moreSo this gym needs a pro's/con's list
Pro Lots of equipment. Good variety in the equipment, which means you can really hit the spots you want to work on. The people here train hard. If you love to lift, you'll be in good company. The staff seem friendly (at least to me, they have been). The place is clean, newly remodeled, and they take care of it.
Cons There's tons of people. This is probably the busiest gym in Gainesville, so if your only lifting times are during peak hours, you're kinda SOL. Yes they have 3 squat racks, but there's gonna be a line, and you'll have to wait. The parking lot is terrible. Don't take a car there if you care about dings in the doors. Or park somewhere other than in front of the gym.
This isn't really a pro or con, it's just informational - If you're the type that gets intimidated, the intensity of the patrons might make you turn around and walk back out. You will find people that look like muscle magazine here. There are definitely people on all kinds of "supplements" here. This is not planet fitness with a "lunk alarm". People lift heavy stuff here. To some it is inspiring, to some people who have come with me it was too intense.
Overall I give this place 4 stars because 3 seems too low. They really try to take care of their patrons in my experience, and it should be a mark of how well they run the gym if they're overly crowded, not a fault. They are also fairly cheap. I'm on a month to month plan and it's only 20/month, and I can cancel it anytime I want. They have multiple payment options if you need them. All in all, a pretty...
