Well, I must admit that I haven't really ever written a review but I do feel compelled to do so on this place. Please remember that this is just my point of view but after having read the other reviews, it seems as though I'm not the only one who has felt this way. Here's a breakdown on the place from just one person - me.
Comics Mega Gaming Comics as a plethora of comics to choose from. Many of them. Great variety and kudos to them for having so many. The problem is that a lot of their comics aren't in the best of shape. They seem to have been exposed to the elements or a lot of humidity before hitting the shelves. I guess this is okay for some, but not for me. I like my comics in excellent shape when i get them. I do not like buying them with bent corners or folds on them. I do not like that the books are wavy as if they absorbed water at some point. Perhaps its the shipping company and not them? I know that I'd be reaching out to the distributor and asking for better product for my clients.
Staff I'll evaluate the three guys I have had the, well, "pleasure" of dealing with. The first one is the gentleman with the black hair and no glasses (their is another there with black hair and glasses, more heavy-set than this guy). Sorry, if I knew their names, I'd say their first name here but I don't.
The guy is alright. Doesn't really look to spark a conversation with you, doesn't really go the extra mile to assist you, but he really isn't bad. I'd just assume someone working at such a novelty store would engage more. He's alright. Next is the bald guy.
There's a bald guy there. Pretty cool. You can tell there's a lot to him and he has so much to offer, yet it seems as though he isn't given that ability. I like him and would like to seem him engage others more. It's evident that there is much more to him. He's polite, friendly, and doesn't make you feel strange, weird, stupid, nor inadequate like this next guy.
This guy, i think he's the manager, is heavy-set, has a big gut, wears glasses, and is plane rude. R.U.D.E. The guy treats you like you're the stupidest person in the world and almost refuses to answer your questions (even for us newbies) until he realizes that he can insult you. The guy looks at you like you're stupid and makes you feel even worse. What more can I say?
I feel bad for the other two guys. This third guy, and forgive me for describing him as having a gut and being heavy-set, but there really is no other way for describing him except for R.U.D.E.
I wouldn't recommend shopping there. To be honest, i find much better deals on amazon, ebay, and comic friendly facebook pages. If you don't care about being treated in such a bad manner, go with this place. If you can, go...
Read moreTwo kinds of customers (generally speaking and not having a go at anyone). One is ok paying MSRP or market and is willing to trade higher prices for a clean stocked store with good inventory and nice folks. The other wants bottom dollar pricing and the ability to go treasure hunting and find underpriced items, or get things well below market. If you are the first type you will like Mega, if you are the second type you won't. It's just that simple.
Example: I recently switched over after my other LCS fell through one too many times on orders and back issues. I have been buying up a lot of older Horror magazines from them and yeah they are .50 to $1 higher than cover prices, but they had TONS of them. It was way better to me to have all that inventory in one place than save a few bucks. That and after shipping it would have cost me more to order them online anyway!
Another example: The owner noticed I was buying a stack of Shudder magazine and asked if I'd like a #1 as he had one behind the counter. He was asking exactly what they sold for on eBay (why would he ask any less?) and I bought it. To me, that's good customer service and a savvy business man. Yeah I could have sat on eBay for days/weeks to save $5 but I value my time more than that, and so I happily took it.
The place is always well lit, has more board games and miniatures than just about any place I've ever been, and has a Cuban cafe right next door for refreshments. Huge back issue selection and new comic selections as well. Massive gaming space, although I'm not sure how you reserve and how pricing works. The few younger guys and girls working have always been very helpful when myself or my wife had questions.
To summarize: If you are willing to pay MSRP/Market price and want a well-stocked, friendly, clean and reliable LCS than this is the place for you. If you are the type that NEEDS to get a deal on everything or has to find things at the bottom barrel pricing to feel good, you may...
Read moreWell I guess will be echoing many other negative reviews left for this shop and will probably get the same rebuttal they post about the 10+ signs all over but here goes. I am 49 and a new comic book collector and I have visited this shop several times. I usually spend an average of $100 per visit. My latest visit was about 45 minutes long. I checked out the wall of new release comics and found a few books I needed. I paid for those and asked if the bins had current back issues. The girl said yes and told me how they were arranged. Marvel, indies, and DC. I went over to look at some series that I have been collecting to see if i could find any to expand my collection. I found a few books that struck me with prices on the bags. One book I found was Venom 200 second printing with the blue web head graphic. It was mark $10.50. I thought cool. I have the first print and that sounds reasonable. I take them to the counter and the girl says give me a minute to have these checked out. She takes them to a guy who looks them up on eBay. He comes over and said the only one we have a problem with is the Venom 200. He said it’s $50 and walks away with it. He didn’t ask me if I wanted it or educate me as to why it was that price. I felt like I had just discovered a book that he wanted or something. He should have educated me on why it was that price. Maybe I would have bought it still. I had no idea the value because I’m new to collecting. I told the girl that I wasn’t trying to pull anything on them and that I didn’t know the value and I just wanted it because I had the first printing of it. She said well it shouldn’t even be over there being a second printing. I told her it was disheartening. I felt as if I had done something wrong in the situation. I think that this shop needs to spend the time to see what they have and price it accordingly instead of making customers feel deflated after spending the time to dig through bins. Not a...
