The Seawall is the easiest way for beach access (IMO). Also, full disclaimer â Iâm sure Iâm Galvestonâs biggest fan. Galveston beach is my most favorite place to be in Texas. I should be on the Galveston tourism board. I have been coming here since I was a kid in the 90s. The Seawall is 10 miles long. I remember when it was free to park, then when it moved to metered parking. Not sure how much it is now. Technology has advanced so much. If you donât pay via your smart phone, you can still call a number to call and pay â Iâm sure to give someone your debit card. The Seawall is all parallel parking. It can get really super cramped and tight during peak season (summer) or major events. Otherwise, itâs pretty light and easy to park. Pro-tip â if itâs peak season and you find a place - get it. It wonât be there when you circle back around. Seawall parking is only one direction from west to east. There are a few place for wheelchair access. Otherwise thereâs stairs, or sand youâll have to deal with. Itâs about 250 feet from the Seawall until you hit the water. This particular day, there was tons of staff cleaning up. The Seawall is safe. Donât leave your valuables in your car in plain view â to entice anyone, but overall, theft and/or violence doesnât seem to be an issue here. No golf carts allowed now on the Seawall. Now, during peak times or big events, thereâs a ton of fools out and about. This is where a lot of restaurants can be found. The Seawall is the drag...
Read moreGalveston is beautiful in the summer time. The sun is obviously a problem for those of us lacking melanin. Do not burn. Wear sunscreen. And the people not lacking melanin can still benefit from sunscreen. I cannot stress sunscreen enough.
The view is wonderful at sunset. There's not a lot of trash but there's always some litter. Always nice to pick it up if you see it. There is a trash can every ten feet so there's really no excuse. (Life guards are super annoying but there's a reason they are there. Best to listen.)
There are plenty of souvenir shops along the Seawall. Especially Murdoch's. Which is historic but overpriced. This is the misery of tourists. But you can have something very cute to remember your vacation by if Galveston isn't somewhere you'll find yourself often.
Some setups can be bought to help you out, like umbrellas and beach towels per hour. Rent-a-shade basically. I'd rather just hide under the pier as the sun drives into the sand overhead. (Don't underestimate the power of a nice beach cover. It saved me from burning without sunscreen. Just cover your skin.)
Lovely place in Texas. Take your time, come early in the morning or as the sun is setting behind Galveston. Those are the best hours on the beach. I also recommend straying away and taking a trip down The Strand. Historic and full of fun shops.
I've been here several times this summer. Go for it. You have my approval. Get a snow cone from...
Read moreNice Beach, keep in mind it's not like Florida Beaches, The seawall could be prettier by having local artist paint it with ocean themed murals, and more attention paid to emptying the garbage cans than trying to rent out the umbrellas and chairs. By the way it's 35$ a day for 2 chairs and a umbrella, or 8 $ for a chair. The lifeguards were friendly and helpful, they should be given megaphones to amplify their whistle blows. Several times they blew from their stand and on the shore, there was confusion over what the warnings met, and many in the water didn't know what was going on which led to some frightened parents looking around for the problem. It was July 4rth perhaps it's different at other times. You can bring bbq pits, beach tents, ice chest, fast food from the Sonic across the street, be prepared for a long wait time, with all the hungry beach heads:) Parking on the seawall is to be paid for on the app, don't park at the Walmart they will have you towed! If possible hit your local Dollar Tree, and Walmart for beach items, cause it gets real...
