Well I came here from out of state. I was told this steak house is the best steakhouse to try when in Texas. So with all the traveling I do go with recommendations of the locals. With that said. I went to this particular steak house in Galveston, parking is a nightmare for starters. But eventually I can find it. It's good that the parking lot to this place is packed at least this was my initial thought. I went in waited in line to be seated. The greeter stated it would be twenty minutes for a table if 4. I said "ok" then I glanced over and I saw an entire section wide open and an entire waiting room filled up. What is the deal with this so far, all of the bad signs start kicking in. While waiting I read a menu so I can speed up the process so we can all eat. Then the reviews came up. Another bad sign. Apparently this particular steakhouse is on the verge of collapse. Finally after waiting not 20 minutes but 40 minutes we got a table. Kids, wife and myself are beyond starving by this point. We waited another 15 minutes before our server arrived. And again there are loads of tables empty so what is taking so long? We ordered everything when she asked what we wanted to drink. She came back and informed us the drinks we ordered are not being served but yet it's on the menu. So there is a rotating tap here but no mention of it being a rotating tap. This would be helpful for not only staff but for patrons. As we sat down waiting we noticed the walls are filthy with wat looked like steak sauce( or at least we hope) still disgusting when you want a tight ship to allow the customers to eat in a nice place. When the food finally arrived the meals were incorrect wrong salad dressings wrong sides, wrong combos. They fixed the issues and apologized. Finally the steak, I tried the steak it was thoroughly undercooked from what I asked for. The flavor was bland. The server never showed up after we got our food except to give us a bill. And also expect a tip? This place is a joke. To be known as a steak house is appalling. Then when my wife went to the bathroom the one server tossed her apron on the ground and had her servers book (the one they hand you the check with) tossed on the floor. Then she stated she never washed her hands. What in the hell is going on here? Most places should be required to atleast wash your hands so you don't cross contaminate any customers food. This place should be shut down and the inspector needs to get this place taken care of. A full restaffing and re education will be the only way to fix this mess. I highly do not recommend this place...
Read moreI do love Saltgrass, and Galveston. But yesterday afternoon, there was a general air of "resting on their laurels." The host seemed bored and seated us right next to another occupied table, chairs bumping, although there were plenty of open tables, then seated the next group right next to us on the other side, chairs bumping. He plopped the menus and pile of napkin-wrapped flatware in the center of the tables when seating, and walked away. Our server, who said lots of silky, friendly-sounding words, seemed to "know best"... I asked to see a menu again, to consider a dessert, and she said, they're not on there; we have thus and so. I said I had seen desserts with calorie counts on the menu, so she acquiesced and brought one, saying, well, they used to be on a separate card. I asked for a small to-go box for about 4 baby-back ribs; she brought a large box; I asked if they had s small box; she said yes, but, the ribs probably wouldn't fit; I asked if I could please have a small box... the ribs fit perfectly and the box closed easily. Small things, but there's polite service and then there's "polite-sounding push-back." I'm 72; I prefer polite service. I do appreciate Saltgrass' Lunch & Early Dinner specials, where I made my selection; my husband ordered from the regular menu. My baby-backs were tender and delicious. The green beans, too, were cooked to perfection... but, highly over-seasoned with their seasoned salt. Our server did request a less-seasoned order for me, which were perfect. My husband asked for a char on his steak; it was cooked to his specified rareness and looked charred, but it was actually blackened to give it a charred look... not the same, and definitely not what he would have agreed to, had our friendly-sounding server explained it properly. A note about restaurants in general... please stop marinating everything... you're adding unnecessary sodium to our diets. Natural chicken and pork might be a little slower and trickier to cook, but we, your hardworking customers, are worth the effort and deserve a healthier, more natural...
Read moreWhen it comes to dining at the “Saltgrass Steak House,” you’re in for a treat that transcends the typical chain restaurant experience. Nestled in the heart of Galveston, this establishment manages to capture the essence of a specialized steakhouse while offering the convenience of a well-loved chain.
Let’s talk about the star of the show: the steaks. Despite being part of a larger restaurant group, the quality of the meat here rivals that of any standalone steakhouse. From ribeyes to filets, each cut is meticulously prepared and cooked to perfection. During my recent visit, I ordered a medium-rare New York strip, and it arrived precisely as requested—juicy, tender, and bursting with flavor. The Saltgrass culinary team truly knows their way around a grill.
After savoring the savory delights, I couldn’t resist indulging in dessert. The portion sizes at Saltgrass are nothing short of generous, and the sweet offerings are no exception. The chocolate cake was a delightful finale to my meal.
Our attentive waiter, Jesse, elevated the dining experience. His warm smile and genuine enthusiasm made us feel right at home. Jesse’s attentiveness without being intrusive was commendable—a true professional who takes pride in his work.
As if the culinary delights weren’t enough, the Saltgrass Steak House offers a stunning view of the sea. The sight of the waves crashing against the shore adds an extra layer of magic to your meal. It’s the kind of view that makes you appreciate the coastal charm of Galveston.
In summary, the “Saltgrass Steak House” is more than just a chain restaurant—it’s a destination for steak aficionados, dessert enthusiasts, and anyone seeking a memorable dining experience. From the impeccable steaks to the friendly service and ocean vista, this...
