Initially, we were planning to skip breakfast this day as our itinerary was full but had a change of heart. We went around 8:30am on a Tuesday morning and there was no crowd at all. We stumbled upon Shykatz from a "My 5 Favorite Breakfasts on the Island" article by Kimber Fountain on GalvestonIslandGuide.com so props to her for pointing us in this direction on our trip to Galveston! Upon arrival, Shykatz has a great artsy vibe with cat paraphernalia everywhere! It seems to be a converted house in a residential neighborhood. "The breakfast to end all breakfasts, the Katastrophic is a heaping mound of everything that makes breakfast great. A homemade biscuit, or toast if you prefer, is piled high with layers of breakfast potatoes, ham, and bacon, then topped off with two eggs prepared to your liking. But the kicker, the crowning glory, the thing that sets the Katastrophic apart from all other breakfasts, is the gravy that smothers it with perfection." Kimber was so right! But even better, I guess we met the owner upon arrival who pointed out that there's a SECRET MENU Mother Clucker which is the Katastropic but with FRIED CHICKEN! Yes, please! We tried both and it did not disappoint, both savory and delicious and oh-so-fulfilling. The owner was very friendly and discussed some of Galveston's highlights with us as well although sad to say, we tried but failed to find the raccoons! We will definitely return on...
Read moreI was really excited to try this place, and the food is really good don’t get me wrong. It got real confusing when they messed up my order. My friend was brought her 2 piece french toast, all is perfect, but hadn’t brought the one piece french toast that I ordered yet. That’s when I politely said to the server I ordered a ONE piece french toast (which is what I was charged for from the beginning…) I was eventually brought a TWO piece french toast. That’s fine. It’s whatever. It got weird when one of the servers comes up to me and my friend, and says “you’re gonna have to pay for one of these 2 piece french toasts per my manager, one of them wasn’t rung up by mistake” At this point I’m thinking, well if it’s your mistake, then just comp the 2 piece french toast my friend had ordered. The server eventually brought us another piece of french toast on the house. I had kinda chuckled and said “well now we have 2 extra pieces of french toast when all I wanted from the beginning was a one piece of french toast” That’s when the server says “well I’m glad, and ya’ll got away with it like bandits!” we didn’t get away with anything… They just got our order wrong, and then wanted my friend to come back and pay. Like… no? Also, I wasn't trying to be rude to her by saying what I said. But it was...

We stopped in for breakfast, the food was great. My husband had a smuggler, which is a big burrito filled with eggs and sausage ( or ham or bacon)and cheese potatoes , onions, peppers and your choice of having it smothered in either country gravy or red chili and he chose the chili and it was incredibly tasty; and oh... by the way, it was deep fried before they smothered it - so amazingly good probably bad for you food LOL
I had the midnight special, a cheddar cheese omelette topped with chili and onions. It came with a bread choice so I chose an English muffin which was yummy and tasted homemade. My omelette was as big as the smuggler, just a huge hearty omelette. It was enough to keep us full, as we pretty much ate that for a brunch and just had a snack in between breakfast and dinner.
We went inside to order our food and get our coffee (the drinks are self served once you order them). They brought the food out to us. We decided to sit outside cuz it was a nice crisp cool day and we really enjoyed being able to sit outside and take our time and eat and it was awesome. I would recommend it to anyone. They have a lot of variety in foods not just breakfast but lots of different kinds...
