The good: The location is awesome! The ocean is directly across the street from the hotel, and for someone from a landlocked state like Utah, it is an amazing experience. I also appreciated the provided mini fridge and microwave. Unfortunately, this is really all the positive I can come up with.
Now, hold tight. I have a bit more to share. First of all, for the love of the gods, do NOT drink the water in the lobby. As soon as we walked in and I saw the water, I literally turned to my partner and said, "Those fake ice cubes look like they would be slimy." After I got the chance to get a closer look and snagged some photos, I can guarantee you that they are slimy 𤢠I also touched the side of the water container, and it somehow felt warmer than the room temperature. There are definitely thousands if not millions of microorganisms growing and thriving in that water container.
The breakfast the hotel offered was abysmal. They poured a different cereal on top of another cereal that was running out. Usually, you can expect at least one protein such as eggs (though after seeing the lack of cleanliness here, I wouldn't have touched them), and almost always a hotel will include little muffins as an option or yogurt. Here, you have cereal, oatmeal, bread, and waffles. They do have a juice machine, but again, due to the lack of cleanliness, I wouldn't trust it. They would run out of peanut butter packets and butter, and once they were gone, that was it. Like, they literally rationed the condiments š
Now, the rooms. It was rough. All of the photos I took are literally the first thing I did, so none of the filth was from us. After I documented what I saw, I used a pack and a half of travel Lysol wipes. I was shook. Just see the pics. Though I appreciated the mini fridge, it was also dirty. The bathroom. Holy $hit, it was bad. The bathroom sink faucet was the grossest I have seen. Ever. I couldn't even tell you what could have caused that other than a consistent lack of cleaning. Then, the mold š We required an ADA room, and we're told it was what was available, so I never considered asking for a different room. Okay, I think that's everything for my room specifically.
My sister and brother-in-law had a room with their two kids. Just after 3am, they woke from humid heat. Their AC went out! My bro-in-law called the office a couple of times and finally got an answer. The staff had them leave their stuff in the room and had them sleep in another. Now, this hotel only provides two (2) pillows per bed, which, for me, is unheard of. Typically, a hotel will provide four pillows per bed with two soft and two firm. Not here. You got two flat a$$ pillows, and that was it. my bro-in-law grabbed two pillows to bring to the new room, and the staff told him he needed to leave them š he replied with "I'll return them in the morning." And rightfully so if you ask me. Onto my other bro-in-law's room. He shared a room with his brother, so they had a room with two beds. They were only given one (1) towel. Should be a simple fix, right? Well, not here. My bro-in-law went to the office to tell them he needed another towel as there was two of them, and the staff responded with something along the lines of "You need to bring us the towel and then we can give you another."... Now, idk if this was some type of miscommunication, but regardless, I have never been hassled before about getting more towels!
So there you have it. Honest, my only hope in sharing this review is for the hotel to improve! This is not the only hotel in the area. Please, we pay good money to stay here. The very least we could ask for is a clean room and lobby. Maybe a few more pillows, and to just not act so cheap. Inflation is taking its toll on all of us. It's getting harder for families, especially larger ones to even go on holiday. I believe that if management doesn't step up, they will be hard pressed to get their rooms filled.
I know this was a crazy long review, but it was an honest one. Thanks to anyone who took their...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThose big, top floor, beach front, ocean view windows right there were ours last night.. kind of.. Long story warning The reservations were made nearly a year ago to make sure the rooms we wanted would be ours. "Ours" consisted of Beth, myself, and the kids in one suite. And our awesome friend Kristin Nicole (who used her saved up points to get the rooms), and Charlie in the other suite. She had actually been there several times in the past ten years under the previous ownership with amazing experiences so she had no reason to expect it to have changed so drastically..
Upon arrival I was greeted with the news that mine and Beth's suite was "having toilet issues" so they accommodated us with two rooms at the other end of the hotel (no ocean view).. ok.. no big deal.. Shit happens.. let's move on and make the best of it.. We showed up about an hour before Kristin so they weren't aware that it was our friend that would be in the suite next to the one that was supposed to be ours.. We had our suspicions (that were later confirmed) that they were lying about the room and actually squatting in it themselves.. Whatever.. again.. Make the best of it.. After settling into the room we realized there were no blankets on the beds, only sheets. One of the TV's was broken, none of the clocks had cords, most lights didn't work, rooms weren't cleaned well at all, and toilets wouldn't flush.. soooooo I called the front desk and asked for the 4 blankets that were missing from our room. They brought me 4 different kinds of bedding that Wednesday found toenails in..... I asked them to fix the toilet so they told me to come down stairs to get a plunger.. after being told to fix it myself basically while they eat i walked up the stairs listening to them giggling.. I decided to walk by the suite that was supposed to be mine.. the door was cracked open. I gently pushed it the rest of the way open to see that the room was fully lived in. In fact horded in.. This morning there were officers evicting someone from a room for smoking weed. I have the case#, the room#, and the assisting officers info. He very clearly said the suspect's room was full of weed smoke. Shortly after the incident (that had nothing to do with us) the owner/manager guy comes to Kristin's room telling her it smells like weed. We invited him in and showed him we are all sitting there (including my children) with no smoke in the room. After that we were constantly stared at and treated like we were doing something wrong. We were literally going back and forth to the beach with our kids having fun... It was too much to deal with. We cut our losses and decided to check out today instead of staying again tonight as this was my worst hotel experience EVER. I insisted he refund my deposit and parking fees, which he did only after investigating my room.. When Kristin checked out right after us he investigated her room as well and agreed there was no weed odor, but kept insisting that someone was smoking in the halls/lobby.. either way he agreed not to charge any cleaning fee and checked her out. 30 min later after he knew she was half way back to Katy Tx. The coward charged her card once for $100 I assume to test the waters, and then he charged it again for $150. $250 total! There were so many things wrong with this place. Me and mine traveled over a thousand miles to enjoy this vacation experience. Just wanted to share my review/this experience in hopes it will save somebody else the hassle.
Edit Since our stay they have refused to answer our calls regardless of the police reports and citation #'s we've provided proving our case. Please don't just listen to me! Read more reviews! These people are the leeches that feed on us when we venture into unknown waters.. This is not the hotel it used to be! F#@k y'all for ruining my...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI don't even know where to begin really. Upon arrival at 3:59 pm I was told that I couldn't check in until precisely 4:00 pm. I was literally told that she couldn't help me until it was exactly 4:00 pm, so I had to wait a few more seconds. I should have known then how the rest of my stay would go. I reserved a 2 Bedroom Suite, Non-Smoking Max 3 guests. 1 King Bed, 2 Double Beds. I was told that my room needed some maintenance and was not available. I asked her if it would be available after the first night, because we were staying 3 full nights. She told me no with very little empathy, and that the best she could do is give me two adjoining rooms. Then to make matters worse I was told that we had to pay a parking fee of $15 a night which is nowhere on their website, and not customary for a 2.5 star hotel. So, not only did I not get the room I reserved and paid in full weeks in advance, but I have to now pay an extra $45 to park at a 2.5 star hotel that looked like I could get robbed at any moment. The more I deal with companies after COVID the more I see how damaging customer service has become. Companies no longer seem to understand that customers should be valued and taken care of. Without customers, these companies would cease to exist. This property is in need of great repairs and upgrades too.
The rooms look nothing like the photos on their website. In one of the rooms the two beds only had two thin sheets for cover. They were missing the thicker quilted blankets that were on the beds in the adjoining room. The sheet on one of the beds had a stain on it and I just pulled it off the bed. It was hard getting any help because the evening shift crew were so rude. The door to room 107 gets stuck and does not close properly. So, we had to slam it shut to get it to close every time. Not to mention the fact that it will not open as it should either when we tried to get back in. So, I really didnāt feel safe with the issues from the door. So, we just used the door in room 104 which was our adjoining room.
We checked in on a Tuesday so by Thursday I needed some clean towels. I went to the front desk in the rain to get clean towels and I was told by the manager that I couldnāt get clean towels unless I brought back the dirty ones. Because they have issues with people stealing from the rooms. Which made me feel like she was racial profiling because I am an African American. So, I went back out in the pouring rain to go get the dirty towels to bring back before I could get clean ones. Then I was given a small slip of paper stating that; āTo help reduce the amount of water and energy and detergents we use daily. We do not provide daily housekeeping services. Please notify us by 8:00 am on your 3rd day if you would like a refresh clean or a full clean. On behalf of the Wingate Team we appreciate your business and glad you chose to stay with us!ā Then I was asked if I was given this paper upon check in, and I told her that I did receive it.Ā But I didnāt get a chance to read it due to all the issues I was dealing with about my room situation and parking fees. And apparently they donāt do deep cleanings on the rooms either, because I took pictures of my closet that still had price tags from a previous guest all over the floor. Along with dust, crumbs, and dead bugs there.
Yes, I tried to get another hotel, but sadly nothing was available...
