What brings us to Garfield Heights….This was the first trail my little one set both feet to the ground on. I still remember him being wobbly & reaching up for my hand. We visited today, almost a decade later. It’s received quite the upgrade. They’ve built additional bridges for walking & added benches. It’s very pretty. If you want a strong start, park in the management parking & then walk left. You’ll hit a trail w a nice incline. There were many families barbecuing and celebrating birthdays. Everyone looked to be having a good day! On our way back to parking, we came across a gal with an exhibit. She was really friendly and enthusiastic. She showed us several creatures that she pulled from the fishing pond. She taught us about which creatures are tolerant of pollution & not. They use them to help determine water pollution levels. We assembled at The Windy Ridge parking area and there met our hike leader, Metro Park Naturalist, LaDonna. She led the hike with a happy to be here attitude, and shared with us her vast knowledge of nature and of her knowledge of the history of this park , all which immensely enriched our journey. She always presented everything to us in her clear, easy to understand voice, and was very pleased to answer all our questions with a genuine interest in our queries. Read moreOne of the best Metroparks in Cleveland! Besides the fancy stonework of the old boathouses, it's the urban locale that opens up possibilities. From the entrance you can run up a staircase to Henry road, or you can run towards Turney road in the center of Garfield Heights. Running down Turney will also take you to Mill Creek, where Broadway and Turney intersect. More mileage for your feet to gobble up! Also at the park itself, underneath the Henry bridge, you'll find that an entire road was converted into a footpath, so it's doubly wide, and gives plenty of elbow room inside the forest.
