Welp...this is going to be a long rant. My family went to Mother Nature's Farm today in Gilbert to pick out a pumpkin and do some quality family time stuff. We parked started walking to the front and were stopped by I believe the owner of the farm that was a nice man and said thank you for putting the vest on my service dog Copper because a lot of people just claim their pets are service dogs and they aren't. We said we know and we get that alot. He said he had let the front know we were coming so everything should be good when we get there to pay. We said great and walked up. When we get to the register we paid and then we were stopped by a lady named Victoria and she asked us for Copper's papers. Now I don't carry Copper's papers for two reasons, the first being that I don't want to lose them and the second being I legally do not need to carry them according to the ADA. I told her this and she said without papers they would not permit him on the property. I tried to explain to her that this was not legal and that she could not do that to which she said...." I took a class, I know what I can ask for". After about a 5 minute argument we decided to leave because she was not allowing us to enter and we got a refund.
I cannot tell you how difficult life has become because of Copper. Everywhere I go I have to explain myself and why he is there. I expected this a little bit but it truely is a struggle most days to just go to the grocery store. He is not an accessory. He is not a toy. He is a fully trained medical alert dog and has become part of my medical treatment plan. My A1Cs has finally gotten to safe levels and my diabetes is in better control then it has been in in the last 10 years but the day to day struggle we go through breaks my heart. If you know someone that takes their pets places and says it's a service dog please let them know that they make my life harder everyday.
I would not trade my amazing dog for the world but it has added a whole new level of stress I don't know if I was prepared for. It bothers me that my family and I are looked at differently because of Copper. Every trip to the grocery store someone has to come and ask to pet or what his story is. I have to plan extra time in my day for these types of disturbances.
I have attached the laws about what I can be asked for during entrance to any public place. I wish people and buisness knew this so I didn't have to educate the general...
Read moreI'd give 4.5 stars if it would let me. Let me start off with this: I've read the other reviews, and for the most part, I think the people complaining about certain things just don't know how farms work. You have animals, you see animal droppings. You can't expect them to pick up every single time an animal goes. The only way you wouldn't have to see dung is if they had an attendant or two constantly shoveling it, and that doesn't sound realistic. If you want everything to be clean, maybe a farm isn't the best idea. Plus, why complain about the manure and then drop the backs of your stickers all over the ground? We cleaned ours up. I did see one animal who had hurt itself by constantly rubbing on the fence, Also, imagine a recently-rescued-animal; it might come in not looking good, and you don't knowhow new it is. I think it's great that they rescue abused animals. The price is $10 per kid, and $3 per adult. Kids get a free pumpkin and a packet of stickers to decorate it with. You can take the hay ride if you want at no extra charge (some places charge extra for this). It's not the best scenery, but I disagree with other people's complaints. This isn't Disneyland or Sea World. I think the prices are great! They get money to take care of the farm and keep it in business. This place was way cheaper than a day at Castles and Coasters, and we had way more fun! If they made it very much cheaper, I don't know if they'd be able to stay open. I love getting the family out of the house and into nature in the fall, and this was a great opportunity. Besides the hay ride, you can wander the hay maze, climb a hill, play in the mini log cabins, jump in the bouncy house, work on your pumpkin, and generally run around in the sunshine. It's too bad that some people complain about things that are part of a farm's nature. I think some people just don't understand how farms work these days. It's a laid-back place, and you don't get nickle-and-dimed for everything like at other places. Yes, the gift shop is pricey, but when aren't they? You don't have to buy anything. Oh, and they sell chicks if you wnat to raise chickens for eggs. I'm glad that we went, and we'd love to go...
Read moreI drive by this farm all the time and decided we should go check it out. I swung by the bank and pulled out a wad of cash as I found out via their website that the entrance fee was a bit pricey. When we arrived and walked into the dusty little shop and the lady at the front ignored our presence. Another gal was putting away her things and the clerk (the owner?) continued to talk to her. I politely waited and said "Hi" again when it appeared the gal was leaving. Again the woman looked off into space for a moment. She then continued talking to the gal that was walking out and we continued to be invisible. I realized that she was intentionally ignoring us. When she finally decided to ring our entrance up she charged me the child's price(which is $7 more than adults) for my 16 year old. I was surprised by that but I rolled with it and coughed up the money. We bought carrots for the animals and I was rather annoyed that it appeared as though their poo had not been shoveled in days. They were cute and friendly, I think they were the best part of the whole farm. My 9 year old checked out some small play size houses nearby and huge nails were sticking out of them. I wish I could post a picture, they were really scary looking. We chose our little pumpkins and then went to wait for the hay ride. The driver appeared to ignore us and was talking on his phone and goofing off with the female staff while we waited 45 minutes in the sun for him. He was just as unfriendly as the lady at the register. The hay ride was dull and the driver said nothing. Multiple riders were also complaining. The ride went around numerous junk yards and no real farming experience. There were even old trailers filled with old gray rotten pumpkins. The only way we were amused by that was from the Tim Burton movie appeal they had, but it was really pretty gross. We left right after the ride.
This place was just a place to dump your money and there wasn't much for entertainment. Not one employee was smiling and they were not at all animated in the least. Save your money and go to Schnepf Farms, at least there is entertainment to be found there and some fun and friendly...
